Bucket 1, airport fiction lane: loved Dark Matter, Recursion, and Pines from Crouch (didn’t click with his others), plus Sakey’s Brilliance trilogy. High-concept, fast-paced sci-fi hooks, fast-paced sci-fi.

Bucket 2, on the other hand: Chiang / Ken Liu lane. Literary, idea-driven short fiction, philosophical, restrained, often melancholy. Already familiar with Three-Body Problem and Le Guin, so looking outside those.

Random side-note, I also really like Ken Grim wood’s Replay.

Tried a bunch of Goodreads lists and nothing stuck. There have to be more writers working these lanes, just need help finding them.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

What I’m really interested in is the first days, weeks, or months—watching people realize something is wrong, seeing the news reports, government responses, panic buying, evacuations, infrastructure failing, and society slowly unraveling.

I’m open to any type of apocalypse (pandemic, invasion, asteroid, natural disaster, EMP, etc.) as long as a significant part of the book focuses on the initial collapse rather than jumping straight to a post-apocalyptic world.

Hello Reddit I just watched project hail Mary and I loved it I'm planning on reading the book but I can't get my hands on it yet (same goes for The Martian), so I was hoping to get some recommendations similar to that or "The Darkness Outside Us" by Eliot Schrefer.

I would also love to read Enemy Mine by Barry B. Longyear because I remember Loving the 1985 movie Enemy Mine but I have no idea where to find it, so suggestions for alternatives would be lovely.

The thing I found really compelling about both stories was the loneliness of a one-way space journey juxtaposed with the contrast of budding companionship.

I'm looking for more books about sentient AI ships, or likewise.

Iain Banks The Culture was an early favorite of mine, Ann Leckie expanded upon the concept (all of which were based on earlier renditions ofc).

I am seeking books that address a sentient being created by humans as a tool-- not extraterrestrial interactions.

Anyone have a copy of the book in the title? It’s about war against “the Creeps” and the soldiers are drugged? I just found out my copy is missing the final two pages! I’d be so grateful if you could snap a picture of them. I want to know how it concludes but im not in a position to order a different copy.

I just joined audible and I am a little disappointed to learn that only some book are included with membership. I know I'm going to blast through my 1 credit a month, so does anyone have any recommendations for included books?

I love sci-fi and fantasy but a lot of the books in that category on the included list looked like "cozy" or romantasy books, which are not my cup of tea. Some of my favorite books are Red Rising, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Narnia, Game of Thrones, etc.

Let me know what I should listen to when my credit is used up!

I just bought a Kindle and I’m trying to get into reading more.

I started with Artemis by Andy Weir and actually enjoyed it, although I’ve since heard that it’s considered his weakest book. Since I’m not a frequent reader yet, maybe my standards are still pretty low!

I’d like to continue with similar kinds of stories, sci-fi that’s engaging, accessible, and not too difficult to get into. Which books or authors would you recommend?

Grew up reading a lot of marvel when I was younger, I love reading about characters like Thanos, Dormammu, Silver Surfer, Lobo etc so I was just wondering if I could find a book series that gives me that same vibe. (I like the concepts of those kinds of characters but I like reading actual books way more than I like reading comics so I gotta know if I can get both in one

I just finished Stephen R. Donaldson's The Gap Cycle series (what a ride!), and I am looking for what to read next. I'm thinking either Vernor Vinge or Iain M. Banks. Any recommendations?

If I had a nickel for every time I read a short scifi book set in first person present tense about a guy who has to fight with other versions of himself for his wife, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

I just finished Dark Matter, great book and no spoilers, but I can’t help but see how close it is to another very good book, Mickey7. Different tones, different messages, but similar.

I highly suggest both of them, and if you read Mickey7, don’t watch the movie. It isn’t very good. But I’ve heard the Dark Matter show on Apple TV is good, but I haven’t watched that either, so…

Hi everyone, I have really enjoyed all of the short stories and the lore of TAIB. I would really like to take up reading again and i just absolutely love the sci-fi fantasy vibe of TAIB. Would anyone have any book recommendations that could scratch that itch for me?

I need to spend less time scrolling before bed and i think reading would be perfect for me.
