Normandy 44 or SD2 for me and my son vs AI battles?

I own both games, with quite a few DLC's I picked up on sale. I've only played 10-12 hours between them but enjoying it.

My 12 year old son has been watching and really wanted to play too. He's fairly competent with games but this level of fast paced tactics is new to him.

He's played a few hours on Normandy 44, he's doing ok but needs a lot of my help and he'd rather we played MP together.

Since both are on sale, I don't mind buying another copy so we can play together. I don't want to buy both in case it's only a passing interest.

Which do you think is the better game for an absolute beginner of his age, considering he doesn't have years of experience of strategy games? I started playing the Close Combat games in the 90's and have been a big military tactics/strategy fan ever since, but even I've met a bit of a learning curve. He's only played a few RTS games like AoE II, SupCom etc.

Normandy 44 seems like the smaller scale might be less overwhelming for him, but then SD2 has quality of life improvements which might make the mechanics easier for him to master? Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Anyone else having a rubbish year so far?

All my French beans look miserable and growing very slowly. The last few rows of beetroot seedlings have had the seed leaves stripped overnight. The early sowings of beetroot are still too small to harvest. Broad beans taking much longer to develop, peas growing much slower than usual.

This time last year I was harvesting a decent variety of food. So far we've had spinach, lettuce and herbs but nothing more substantial!

I'm putting it down to the early heatwave followed by cold, wet weather, but it's very frustrating.

Edit

Thanks for all the replies. Kind of reassuring to know I'm not alone in this yet even more disappointing to know so many others are suffering!

I'm getting paranoid about compost contamination now. I didn't have enough of my own compost this year due to making several new large beds. I used a mix of Evergreen tree and shrub and evergreen multi purpose peat free over 3 large beds, and pretty much everything except carrots and onions look terrible. There's definitely more slug damage this year, but the beans especially look awful, like they've been sprayed with weed killer.
