Will’s Acting

I know we shouldn’t be commenting on actors but whoever plays Will could do with some acting lessons. It is dire. Every time he comes on screen I cringe with the faces he makes and the monotony of his voice. Surely they could have found someone better. Don’t get me started on the fact that he’s supposed to be an “athlete”.

More Unbiased Content Please

I absolutely love The Tennis Podcast and have been an avid listener for years. I pay for “Friends” which is well worth it. However,as a Zverev fan I can’t help but be bothered by their clear unwillingness to even talk about him. I know they don’t like him and I’m not here to argue about the ins and outs of that but in their latest pod they brushed past what happened to Zverev in the semi-final of Halle. They said the loss was expected and practically laughed at this then briefly mentioned that he didn’t look well, maybe it was his back and he has issues with his blood sugar. I don’t think they knew and definitely didn’t care about the seriousness of what happened to him on Saturday. Yet they will talk non-stop about Sinner suffering in the heat. Zverev has a chronic medical condition and never uses it as an excuse when he loses so the fact that he did speak about it shows how it greatly affected him. The fact that it’s never taken into consideration by David, Matt and especially Catherine is extremely frustrating. As I said, I love this podcast but would appreciate some unbiased content. Yes, they may not like him but I’m sure there are people who listen who do.

End of Year Reporting

I am always honest in my reporting. Maybe too honest! I’m never unkind but I do point out if a student hasn’t been behaving in class and if they could have worked harder. I try to word it in a way that is professional and not demeaning. Out of interest and pure boredom I was looking at students results to see if other teachers had commented in a similar way to me. I can’t believe some of the comments. There was one student in particular who was very disruptive all year and everyone complained about in the staff room yet all the comments are saying how well behaved they were and how hard they worked in class. I don’t understand this when it doesn’t line up to what has been happening all year. I feel like I look like I’m being really mean when I was simply being honest. What way do others report? I feel my colleagues lie to have an easy life 😂

Where has the respect gone?

I don’t know if it’s me or whether students have changed but I feel like I used to have great relationships with my students and they would really show how appreciative they were of me. Now it seems that the more I do for them the less they care.

I had a particular group of students for 6 years and when they finished with me I barely got a thank you. I felt I was so good to them over the years. As well as being kind to them, I did my best to make sure they achieved to their full potential and I provided them with so many opportunities.

Recently before their exams I uploaded extra resources to help them and thanked them for the years we had together ending with wishing them luck. Not one of them responded and I know that only two in the group actually opened the resources. I just feel so disheartened and like, what do I have to do to gain respect from them? I see how some of them are with other teachers and that makes me feel worse because you can tell they have more respect for them. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Any advice would be appreciated!

Discipline a Disaster PP

I feel my school isn’t doing a good job with discipline but I don’t think I’m in a position to speak up about it. It seems that some students get away with certain behaviours and teachers are not supported and then other students get a hard time over minor issues. We have had cases of students verbally and physically attacking teachers and SNAs but because they have needs there are no repercussions. I understand that some students because of their diagnosis struggle with authority but I don’t think it’s fair that they get away with absolutely everything. I’m not even talking about a detention or suspension but they have not even had to apologise. I equally believe that we are not rewarding the good students. We have no real system of commending those we are well behaved and work hard. Our principal got rid of the awards night over fears that students and parents would be upset if they didn’t get an award. I find this ridiculous to be honest, especially as it wasn’t just for academic or sporting achievements. I feel we are failing as a school because the good students don’t get anything for being good and the students who are causing trouble don’t have any repercussions. I’m not in a leadership role and I don’t feel I have the confidence to speak up as when I have in the past I felt fobbed off. We have an acting principal at the minute and I feel they don’t deal with issues from staff that well. I’m hoping our principal does come back and I can speak to them but it’s not looking likely at the minute.
