NPB officially announced a revision to the Climax Series Final Stage, where the pennant winning team may possibly earn a 2nd Win advantage.

The 1 Win advantage for the pennant winning team still remains in place, but if the winning team of the Climax Series First Stage (2nd vs 3rd) finishes the regular season 10 games behind the 1st place team (pennant winner), OR the First Stage winning team finishes the regular season under .500, THEN the 1st place team will receive a 2nd Win advantage. This means that instead of the regular season 1st place team having to Win or tie only 3 games in the Final Stage, they might only have to Win or tie 2.

For example, as of the current Central League standings, the Baystars are 12.5 games back of the Tigers AND the Baystars have a WPCT of .459, meaning if the Baystars knocked off the Giants in the First Stage, then the Tigers would start the Final Stage 2W-0L over the Baystars at Koshien Stadium. If the Giants won the First Stage, the Tigers would start the Final Stage 1W-0L over the Giants at Koshien Stadium.
