Strange reactivity to Guerlains

My fragrance journey has led me to gates of heaven that is Guerlain. I walked away from my first encounter with this house with several samples, confidently purchased the Eau de Cashmere.

Two samples: Shalimar and Peche Mirage have not landed well on me. Shalimar was plasticky. The Peche went to gasoline on me. But I am a girl for second chances and today spritzed the Shalimar on my sweater and went out for an evening walk. It’s not me, it has a powdery note I don’t love, I won’t purchase, but I didn’t get the plastic when it wasn’t on my skin. So this has me thinking—perhaps scents can be better not applied directly to skin? Thoughts or feedback appreciated!

Heyyy wondering where peeps are going to smell Guerlain? I have never smelled Shalimar, for instance. There has been some discussion about the lux department stores having somewhat dismal selection but I gotta try. Headed down to SF today! Thanks 🙏

Edit to follow up: The Guerlain counter at Neiman Marcus (SF Union Square) was fantastic! It felt like a pretty thorough inventory. There was probably 60 fragrances—and a line of textile scents (poplin, cashmere, tulle, etc etc) that I was floored by. The cotton one made me tear up because it had me recall my grandma. I bought the Shalimar EDT to start but I’m afraid it won’t stop there. There is so much more in the store too—Aqua De Parma being one that was

soooo much fun 🤩💃🕺
