so tiny on the big bean bag

you’d think for such a big guy, he’d look big everywhere, right? not this creature. his size takes many forms and many shapes. today it was small and adorable on the bean bag

Bit of a warning/cautionary tale for fellow sighthound owners

Had somebody reach out to me today with what was, frankly, a very strange message. They’d apparently found a lurcher and the man claiming it was his dog had been using photos scraped from my own post history on this sub. My actual dogs.

The whole thing was incredibly unsettling and genuinely quite upsetting. I know we all share photos here because we love our hounds and enjoy the community, but this has really made me reconsider having pictures of my guys up publicly at all. There’s something deeply weird about seeing someone else take your photos and present your dogs as their own.

Anyway, just a word of caution to everyone here to be mindful of what you post publicly online, even in niche hobby or dog fancy spaces that feel friendly and safe. Apparently no corner of the internet is immune from odd behaviour.

Very weird situation all round.

More context to my previous thread.

The conversation then went on to describe how this man was claiming a lost lurcher was his with no proof of ownership besides MY pics. He then showed me an other pic that this “owner” was using as “proof” of two totally different dogs. One looked like an old fashioned lurcher maybe, but very different to mine, and the other was a white and brindle greyhound/greyhound lurcher. That is someone else’s pic too.

Brass will be making his dock diving debut in a few weeks!

I am so excited to be sharing this journey with Brass. He may not care about a lure but he's all about the dock diving in his own methodical way 🥰 Chimera got a little swimming in too 🧡

Do your borzois drink obsessively too? Is this a possible behavioral issue?

I was a bit hesitant about posting this as I don't tend to go searching around the internet for advice, but vets have been no help and I'm beginning to think this might be behavioral.

My borzoi (4 y/o) is worryingly obsessed with drinking water. His breeder did warn me the breed tends to drink a lot and it's normal for them, but his behavior seems way blown out of proportion. He is constantly glued to the water bowl. If we let him, he will spend over a minute there and usually empty the bowl. When we visit family, who also have dogs, he will empty said dogs' bowls (all three of them) in an hour or so leaving them with nothing to drink. No matter where we are, it's like he's on autopilot towards the nearest water source and keeps coming back to it several times. He tries to drink from the toilet, pulls towards puddles and fountains, if he sees even a handful of water he HAS to drink it. We have a second dog now, who will often whine at us to refill the water because it's almost always emptied by the borzoi.

Now, of course I thought this to be a health issue first and foremost. I visited local vets, then some specialists farther away. But he's completely healthy. His kidneys are in good shape, he doesn't have diabetes, his blood work is great for a sighthound. He pees a lot each outing, but doesn't need to go more often than a typical dog. We eventually learnt he has acid reflux through a specialized vet, and this felt like it could have been the cause, but now that it's been treated and the symptoms let up, nothing about his drinking habits changed.

I'm willing to accept this is just how he is, but he almost seems in distress over this constant need to drink water and I wish I could help that somehow.

Any borzois struggling with this as well?

new toy

lobo has officially found his second favorite toy, his pheasant! took him to the pet store to pick a toy out and it was the only thing he showed any interest in. i wasn’t too convinced he’d actually play with it but now he rarely even puts it down. this is just the beginning of their beautiful friendship 🪶
