Summer Maxi dress

Pattern is McCalls 7948 with the following alterations:-

  • Hacked the sleeve pattern (by slashing and spreading) to give an elbow length flutter type sleeve
  • Cut the front neckline a little deeper than given in the pattern, I've made this pattern up before and find that the neckline as given cuts very high on the throat, especially when sitting down
  • Altered the skirt to give a maxi length with a hem frill, in such a way as to use up all the fabric I had (not hard as the pieces are basically rectangles)

The fabric is a viscose from Little Johnny fabrics

Retro Inspired Summer Look

Going for the swishy 70s maxi dress look

Not my usual colours but I couldn't resist the print

Made a dress for my holiday

I saw this fabric at a roadshow a few days before I went on holiday and had to have it!

Fabtic is a very fine cotton voile (from Stitch Fabrics)

Pattern is Simplicity 8910 with the following alterations :-

As the fabric was sheer I fully lined the bodice (and part lined the skirt). This eliminated the need for the bias neckband

I hacked the sleeve pattern piece, by slashing and spreading it,to give a full flutter sleeve
