What’s something the movies cut that actually changed the meaning of the story?
For me it’s the house-elf stuff.
The movies made it seem like Dobby was just a side character, but in the books the whole house-elf storyline says a lot about the wizarding world itself.
-Hermione starts SPEW because she’s horrified by how elves are treated.
-Kreacher goes from hateful to loyal once someone finally treats him with kindness.
-Winky shows that freedom isn’t simple for elves who were raised in slavery their whole lives.
-Even the “good guys” mostly accept the system without questioning it.
