Valley of Flowers in Monsoon season (July end), okay to do solo? Any suggestions?

Is Valley of flower doable in monsoon season all alone? I am counting Hemkun Sahib trek too in that. Basically a 4-day-trekking experience. Any specific aspects to take care of, apart from shoes and rain covers? Also, any good way to find accomodation in Ghangaria?

Valley of Flowers trek: Need travel partner, Itinerary, tips

Hi All, I am a solo-traveller who haven't taken a trek since long. A 30+ age, Software Engineer based out of Hyderabad. Usually I prefer to travel solo for multiple reasons, but looking out for a travel partner(s) for two primary reasons this time- (1) I want to cover Badrinath Temple and Mana Village before heading to Ghangaria, all on same day, and for that I want to book personal vehicle. So to cut cost, someone traveling along will be good to share the cost of vehicle. (2) The Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib trek looks little more hectic, so it will be good to have someone along for company, for safety and psychological assurance (this will be my first multi-day trekking expedition in such high-altitude region).

Here is my itinerary:-

  1. 25th July: Reaching Dehradun Airport, heading to Rishikesh and staying there for the night. In the evening, getting more accurate info about the next day's journey there.
  2. 26th July:- Starting for Joshimath (or Govindghat if stay plan there) in early morning. Would prefer a comfortable Bus journey for this period, but open to suggestions and further planning.
  3. 27th July:- Early morning start for journey on private booked car, for Badrinath -> Mana Village -> back to Govindghat -> ahead to Pulna. And onward trek to Ghangaria. It will be fast-paced, hectic, but should be doable I believe. And this is where I am looking for 1-2 fellow solo travellers, who would be willing to share the cost of car and travel along.
  4. 28th July:- Trek to Valley of Flowers and back. From all my readings, it is an easy trek, can be doable solo too, so I am not concerned about this phase. Will start around 8 am after having breakfast etc, and don't foresee any challenges in this stretch. Want to freely go around, spend time around at leisure. (Hopefully no dangerous creatures around there!)
  5. 29th July:- Trek to Hemkund Sahib and back. This could turn challenging due to more elevation gain, change in weather, and longer trekking requirement. So a travel partner in this stretch will be reassuring.
  6. 30th July:- Trek back to Govindghat or Joshimath, and stay there overnight.
  7. 31st July: Buffer day for delays caused in any of the previous 3 days. If it remains free, I plan to cover Auli, by taking a trek to Gurso Bugyal there.
  8. 1st Aug: Joshimath to Rishikesh journey. Overnight stay in Rishikesh.
  9. 2nd Aug:- Rishikesh to Dehradun Airport. Dehradun to Hyderabad flight.

My preparation about this trek:-

  1. On alternate days, I am running 5 km in approx 35 mins. And on the next day, I am walking 4-5 kms and doing legs exercises. And I am increasing my protein and calcium intake.
  2. Flight bookings done, but stay bookings yet to be finalized. I am planning to do the bookings by calling hotels directly, or by taking help of some Guides based out of Ghangaria. Ghangaria stay booking is the main concern, so that's where my focus is. If nothing works, I may just contact one of the trekking groups for stay (though it may disturb my other plans a bit)
  3. I am yet to buy all the stuffs to take along, but my primary focus is on buying waterproof trekking shoe (suggest me some!), and good rain covers. Medicines too will be bought, but that's easy stuff I guess. Anything else you think must be taken along? May be headlamp?

I have gone on several solo trips in India in past, and a 1-day solo trekking in hilly, snowy terrain too, but I have never done such continuous multi-day trekking, so I am planning and thinking on how to go about it (keeping in mind all the accompanied risks etc too)

I searched a lot for trekking organisers, and they do look so affordable (just about 10-12K is a great deal), but somehow I don't like that I would have to just go around in groups as per their plan and arrangements. Expense is not my concern. But I fear that if I don't get good staying place of Ghangaria, I may have to club with one of those trekking organisers (I have two probable ones on my list)

That's all. Let me know if you are up to tag along, and if you have any suggestions or advices. For the travel partner, I would prefer if you are 30+, working, and introvert who love books (yeah I know, I know, don't jump on me to kill!)
