2017 Civic LX A/C Evaporator Diagnosis
Hey everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster, here.
I bought my Civic brand new in the fall of 2017. Like so many other 10th generation Civics, mine is starting to fall victim to an endless loop of A/C issues. I had the compressor replaced in 2021 and had the compressor shaft seals replaced last year. Recently, the A/C has been blowing hot out of the drivers side vents, but cool on the passenger side.
I took it to the dealership today hoping that it was just the shaft seals again and that it would be covered under warranty. Unfortunately, they said that the evaporator expansion valve is leaking and the evaporator’s fins are starting to become plugged. Of course, this is not covered under warranty and I was given an estimate of $2,500 for labor and parts.
Does anyone else have experience with this issue/diagnosis? What did you end up doing? I’m not a super experienced mechanic and am curious about what the community knows about this issue.
