Not sure if it's healthy or how to plant it.
Hi everyone,
I need some urgent advice on how to save this plant. It’s quite large, about 4 feet (1.25 meters) tall with 6 long, beautiful leaves. I kept it in water for a week, but not like in the second photo. That was only for the photo.
I’ve always known it as a Sansevieria, but I recently took it out and the base looks very worrying.
As you can see in the photo, the bottom part of the stem/rhizome is dark brown, and there are basically no healthy roots left. The very top part of the stem (where it turns light green/whitish) still feels relatively firm, and I can see a couple of tiny white bumps where new roots might want to grow.
I wanted to pot it, but now I’m afraid that burying it like this will just kill it completely.
• Is this root/stem rot?
• Is there any way to save a plant this big?
• Should I chop off the brown part completely, let it callous, and try to propagate it in water or perlite first? Or is it safe to plant it in soil now?
Any tips on how to handle this surgical process for a tall plant would be highly appreciated. Thank you so much!
