G1 FAL (BGS)

Finally added a metric FAL to the collection. It's a G1 parts kit built on an Enterprise STG58C receiver, with the widows peak feed ramps, and looks like it's been used pretty well, so I have decent expectations for reliability just based on how much carbon buildup was on the piston/gas system.

Not a single number matches on the gun, but the bolt carrier has a BGS proof mark, so I'm happy enough. The barrel is an original FN with a G1 lug, and G1 QD flash hider. The barrel and crown are in excellent condition, with good, strong rifling present. BHO works as it's supposed to. The stock is a type C G1 stock, and no, it's not supposed to have the ferrule, it's correct as it is. No cleaning kit in the buttstock though, unfortunately.

Now to find a BGS smock in my size that isn't totally destroyed...

Colt's New Service

One of the newer acquisitions to my collection: Colt .45ACP New Service M1917 revolver, US Army property marked.

This particular revolver was made in 1919, so it did not see service during WW1, but likely saw service into WW2 or as late as Vietnam. It was refurbed at SA during the interwar period, and given a Parkerized finish to replace the bluing. Major parts are SA assembly numbered and do match. The refinishing does make the original Colt markings hard to read.

Timing/lockup is tight, with a smooth but heavy DA pull and a crisp SA pull. The cylinder is almost bearing smooth, after a light oiling with some Ballistol.

No hit on SRS for this particular revolver, so I will likely be putting in soon for a Colt letter at FOIA request to see where this one went during its time in service.

Polizei Nordrhein-Westfalen P6

Ok, not technically milsurp. My Sig Sauer P6 came in today, crossing another "grail gun" off my list, and rounding out my Sig P22X collection a little more.

This thing is in extraordinarily good condition for being a PolSurp, and I think fell into the category of "carried often, fired rarely." Numbers match, and came with a P6 marked magazine and German duty holster.

The DA pull on this is HEAVY, somewhere between 22 and 24lbs. SA pull is short and crisp.

Absolutely stoked to have this in the collection now, and looking forward to some good range days soon!

German (?) Mauser

At least, that's how it was marked on the rack!

Brought home this 1944 CE (J.P. Sauer) Kar 98k from the LGS while picking up some unrelated ammo.

This rifle is 100% numbers matching, SN 8506H. WaA37 and WaA280 are present in the correct locations and quantities, and the dirty birds are all intact. Barrel is stamped bct for JP Sauer.

Bore is easily 9.5+/10, has a couple cobwebs, and some dust, but extremely strong, clear rifling. Both stock and handguard sections are numbers matched to the gun, and the stock has the "H" stamp for Heer acceptance. Original red paint is still present under the butt plate. The screws and cleaning rod are not numbered. The bayonet lug doesn't look like it's ever had a bayonet fitted to it, as the bluing is unmarred in the slot.

Besides being a little dirty with some very light surface rust on the top of the barrel under the handguard, everything under the stock line is pristine, with some original grease still behind the magazine.

The sling is almost certainly a reproduction, but that's ok, it was included with the rifle.

Unfortunately there's no provenance with this gun. I asked about capture papers or any kind of documentation for it, but came up empty. I'm assuming it's a capture, not a later import.

Mein LangePistole 08

I found this commercial 9mm LP08 at the LGS yesterday while killing time waiting for an appointment, and it had to come home with me. It's unwieldy, impractical by modern standards, but an interesting piece of PDW development history.

Being a commercial DWM gun, it doesn't have any military acceptance or proof marks, and the safety is marked "SAFE" instead of "GESICHERT." Serial number is in the 90k range, and all numbers unsurprisingly match. Bluing is in excellent condition, as is the strawing. Came with an original aluminum magazine with wooden baseplate, which is unnumbered.

Does anyone have any experience with the quality of the repro holster/stock sets from Sarco? And does anyone have a more solid resource on dating these besides "early 20s?"
