Still afraid of those petal veins, but Progress is Being Made
I posted this wip a week ago, mostly concerned with the petal veins, but some people commented that the leaves required more definition to match the details on the flowers, so I'm focusing my energy on that for now!
It is NOT easy. My reference photos are pretty fuzzy, so I went out and stared at actual violet leaves for a while.
Hot press is still my nemesis
It's been a few years since I tried hot press, so my hatred of it had faded somewhat. I've grown as an artist and watercolorist, so surely I can control the paint better now. There was a paper sale, so I picked up the good stuff...
This is Fabriano 300gsm hot press paper and oh my gosh, I hate the way it handles water. I can never tell if the paper is wet enough for wet on wet technique, or if it's already drying up and adding more paint just causes things to lift and bloom. I just want to get some smooth washes and gradients, but I'm constantly stressed trying to achieve the look I want. Ugh!
Paintings in progress. Will I ever finish one? Who knows
Apparently I function best by hopping between a million projects at once. I would LIKE to show a finished product but all I have are WIPs
