Should I use tiny11 for a windows VM?

I’m looking to set up a windows virtual machine on Linux with KVM. I’m wanting to try and squeeze out as much performance as possible, and don’t like all the bloat stuff anyway.

Back when I was on windows I heard tiny11 was a good alternative for those needs.

Is it worth it to use that iso instead of the official windows one?

Best software for remote access?

Hey everyone! I’m looking to tackle my first real Linux project. I’m wanting to do some work without being shackled to my desk, so I’m taking a laptop, and going to try and remotely access it. Nothing crazy, just over a local connection so I could work in the kitchen or out on the porch.

Anyway my question is what’s the best software to do that? Right now I’m looking at x11 forwarding (or the Wayland equivalent) when I manually make shortcuts to the programs I’d use, VNCs, and RDP protocols.

These are the ones that came from some light research, but I don’t know which is best, or if there’s one I haven’t listed.

My use cases would be running more graphically intense stuff like GIMP and Davinci and maybe MAYBE gamea, though I’m less confident it’d run well and probably just use steam link.

Trying to remove GPU from Ubuntu server

I set up a simple Ubuntu server to run pterodactyl and MC like forever ago. Just my old gaming PC that I didn’t need after upgrading, I followed a step by step guide, all that jazz. I am pretty sure it’s headless? Or at least supposed to be? I‘ve only ever gotten terminal output from it before.

Well now I’m actually running Linux, and I want to do some VM stuff so I went to rip out the old GPU I left in there because I was lazy, and it started beeping when I turned it on.

I think this is a POST error, but I’m not sure how, or even if, I can fix it. It’s an OMEN motherboard, if that helps, and I think the CPU was an i5 or i7?

Is it a good idea to run Linux on a crap laptop?

I recently moved over to Linux mint, and I’m coming up on a month of use.

I’ve gotta say, it’s been pretty great!

And it got thinking. For a lot of my classes, I’ve been using an iPad, and for handwriting notes it’s fantastic. But it sucks for web browsing.

I’m considering buying an old shitty windows laptop off like eBay and running maybe something like arch? (I’ll have the whole summer to learn it) or something similarly light but more friendly.

Just a thing to run a web browser and maybe (not sure if I could make it run well on a good laptop) Remote Desktop into my main PC.

Would that be a good idea? I’m worried about wasting money.

Best choice for running windows apps.

Hello everyone! Here’s some background: due to a series of events, I’ve been semi-forced into using Linux, but there are still a couple of windows applications I need, like photoshop, Lightroom, and solidworks which I’m told are particularly graphically intense.

(Funnily enough I had already been using the Microsoft suite online because I was too lazy to install slop apps…)

Anyway now I’m looking running these through linux. I’ve tried the phialsbasement / wine thing for PS but it didn’t handle Lightroom well (granted I could’ve done something wrong) so I’m looking into using a VM.

I’ve got a 3060 as my main GPU, and a 1650 super lying around I could dedicate to the VM; although I know Winboat- which I’ve heard recommended a lot- can’t do dedicated acceleration.

Is the 1650 good enough hardware to justify moving to something else? And if so, what?

Maybe bottles or winapps?
