Decade-Old Piercing Issues
Hi All,
I've had my earlobes pierced for over 13 years now, and wore earrings fairly regularly until last summer. I probably went about 8 months without wearing any and during that time and about 4 months ago I got a right ear infection and the drainage from that reached my piercing and it got a bit crusty. That infection healed with topical cream. After that I tried to insert a pair of earrings and the left one (non infection) went in with minimal problems, but the right one was painful to insert and I had to mess with it to get it to go in. The earring was painful so I took it out after a few minutes and then I had about two months of crusting, pus, blood, and a bit of pain. I used a topical antibiotic cream and it minimized, but I could tell something was still off with the piercing itself. I went to a local piercer and he said it didn't look infected but the hole was closed and he would have to re-pierce. I'll do that eventually but in the meantime I still feel like I have a small infection IN the piercing. It was okay for awhile but this morning it pussed again after itching for a few days. Is it weird to have a piercing very minority infected for this long, and what should I do about it? Seems a bit much to go for systemic antibiotics since it's so m minimal but it never seems to fully go away! Any advice is super appreciated!!
