I’ve screened 1000s of CVs for UAE roles (real estate, fintech, legal) — here’s what actually gets people rejected before the interview
Been in recruitment here for 5+ years, in-house at a few different companies. Wanted to share the patterns I see over and over, since I know how frustrating this market can feel when you’re not hearing back.
Most common reasons CVs get skipped in under 10 seconds:
∙ No UAE-specific context (visa status, notice period, location) — recruiters need this instantly, not buried in a cover letter
∙ Generic job titles that don’t match what’s actually searched (e.g. “Business Development” instead of what the role really was)
∙ Career gaps or job-hopping with zero explanation — one line fixes this
∙ CV reads like a job description, not an achievement list — numbers and outcomes get noticed, duties don’t
On interviews: the biggest killer isn’t skills, it’s people not being able to explain why this role, why now in under 30 seconds. Recruiters decide a lot in the first 2 minutes.
Happy to answer questions in the comments if anyone’s stuck on something specific — CV, interview prep, or just trying to understand why they’re not hearing back.
