r/NPD and some of our members are being targeted for harassment and false accusations, and being impersonated. Please report these posts and users to reddit and us mods ASAP.

Reminder to members that this is a public forum anyone has access to. Please refrain from using your real names, information regarding location, or any identifying information. We've all been through enough abuse here and don't need to be dealing with it within our own community. Report posts, messages, DMs to us that seem out of character for the subreddit or members being spoken about.

To the individual making the false accusations and impersonating members... The individual who is doing this knows who they are and they know they are behaving abusively and immaturely instead of accepting the consequences of their own actions... posting nazi and other racist, homophobic, etc content to the discord servers and getting banned for it. Please get the help you need instead of continuing the cycle of abuse that was and is inflicted on you in your home environment. None of the hurt you are feeling that is causing you to act this way is in any way any of our faults. You were given multiple chances to change your behavior and chose to continue behaving this way. No one here wishes you any harm, just for you to get the help you need and move on to a community that may be more useful and supportive for the issues you are dealing with. We're not mad at you, just disappointed in your destructive behavior when we know everyone can do better than this.

* This is not a post for non-narcs or narcs to be abusive towards anyone. Please report any comments or questions that are not made in good faith.
* This is not a place to ask if your ex/mom/friend/boss/dog is a narcissist.

What is Narc Club?

Narc Club is a peer support run zoom group created by u/narcclub.

👑 Narc Club ❤️‍🩹

WHAT IS NARC CLUB?
A confidential support group for people with pathological narcissism/NPD to increase self-awareness, deconstruct shame, seek and offer support, and practice vulnerability with others who get it.

NARC CLUB IS NOT:
A substitute for professional therapy.
A place to seek help for an acute mental health crisis.
A space for non-narcissists, including supportive partners/family members/friends (at this point).

SESSIONS OFFERED
Large Groups
Core | Saturdays, 11 am – 1 pm EDT
Open Process | Wednesdays, 2 – 4 pm EDT
After Hours | Wednesdays, 9 – 11 pm EDT

Focus Groups
Dark Narc Club | NPD/traits + ASPD/traits only | every other Tuesday, 8:30 - 10:30 pm EDT
From The Ashes | newly self-aware/dx and/or in collapse | every other Thursday, 7:30 – 9:30 pm EDT
Whiplash | NPD/traits + BPD/traits only | every other Sunday, 12 – 2 pm EDT

NEW: Fractured | Cluster B PD/traits + DID/dissociative experiences | every other Monday, 5 – 7 pm EDT, starting August 3rd

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

  1. Absolute confidentiality is paramount. What is said in group stays in group. No recording or taking screenshots of any kind. Cameras are optional but encouraged.
  2. No interrupting during shares. Please reserve feedback for the allotted time during the discussion portion or comment in the chat box with u/ membername.
  3. Share times should remain relatively equal. Timers will be used for this purpose.
  4. Spoken intros/check-ins are limited to the first 10 members who raise their hands. Note: A separate chat tab will be available for written intros/check-ins. Discussion shares are also limited to the first 10 members, for the sake of staying on time.
  5. Try not to give unsolicited advice. Speak from your own experience. Don't tell others what they 'should' or 'shouldn't' do.
  6. Zero tolerance for bigotry or discrimination. Racist, sexist/misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, and ableist comments are not acceptable.
  7. No bashing other disorders. This includes stigmatizing or attacking other PD diagnoses or traits.
  8. Zero tolerance for shaming. Respect other members. Exercise non-judgment and cognitive empathy toward one another. Note: respect does not always mean agreement—thoughtful conflict is often necessary for growth.
  9. All emotions are welcome. All behaviors are not. Show up however you are, but avoid directing dysregulation at others.
  10. We are not crisis counselors or mental health professionals. If you express acute suicidal/homicidal ideation or explicit descriptions of self-harm, we will connect you with more appropriate resources. Narc Club is not a substitute for therapy or crisis care.

WHAT'S THE POINT OF NARC CLUB?

In a nutshell: corrective relational experiences.

Open letter to the community from Invis + NPD and Suicide || Myths vs Facts || NPD Awareness Month 2026 || Shareable Graphics

https://preview.redd.it/s76t5ciniqfh1.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=f6cf933759a4a286214b35fcbc7bd135c03e4ff3

Dear Narc Fam,

As some of you know, there has been some drama within the community as leadership positions have shifted, members and staff have taken accountability regarding miscommunication and disordered behavior, and new communities are being created (Narc Club Discord Server coming soon, u/narcclub will be making a post regarding that in the coming future and u/shesjustjupiter is also a leader within narc club you can reach out to). The r/NPD subreddit is now an umbrella community for resources from all communities and all moderators have equal permissions for controlling changes within community regarding members and content.

Due to personal drama in my life, my mental state has tanked and I am inpatient receiving treatment until further notice due to planning a suicide and finally listening to loved ones and community members about getting help (this post is scheduled, along with some other posts for npd awareness month). I apologize to anyone in the community that my behavior has shocked or betrayed trust given my leadership position within the r/NPD Peer to Peer Discord Server (previous r/NPD Official Discord Server). I have been demoted on the server and while there are plans of me returning in the future without a leadership position within that specific server, for now I am not a member there and any issues within that specific community can be addressed by u/Offensive-Thoughts (Okami) and the other mods (Ghost, Mordecai, Krote and whoever else may be on staff there currently.) Due to trust being broken on both sides, the subreddit will be shared by all community leaders while trust is rebuilt.

The r/NPD Recovery 2.2 Discord Server is also active, and any issues within that community can be addressed by u/GrimReligion or @ GrimKult on discord or Apolli.

Seeking help before reaching crisis is often essential for people with disordered narcissistic traits, because our suicide attempts are often lethal especially when during collapse.

My personal experience with suicide during collapse has led to very serious overdoses that have resulted in resuscitation multiple times and my heart being paced for me. While suicide threats and behavior can look intentionally manipulative to outsiders, the suffering that we go through while thinking and behaving in that manner is valid as fuck and deserves to be taken seriously without narratives being twisted and our disorders used against you.

Unfortunately one of the damaging effects of stigma is that even professionals and others within the very communities you receive support in can hinder our suicidality being taken seriously, and our disorders used against us which can result in us NOT reaching out for help, leading to more serious and succesful suicidal gestures.

https://findahelpline.com/ - Reach out BEFORE it's too late. Or walk into your local emergency room and explain you are feeling suicidal or planning an attempt. It is scary, but they are there to help you help yourself. Suicidal ideation and gestures are often directly related to powerlessness. When we experience collapse or are being abused or having our disorder used against us, we feel powerless and can lash out with suicidal threats and gestures that look intentional to control but that's just because that is how our defenses were built. It is a cry for help, not a true desire to manipulate, control or scare others. Regain feelings of empowerment by taking control and reaching out for help, showing your disorder that you are capable of pushing back and have autonomy over your choices despite your perception or urges being disordered yet.

I am choosing to seek help before I go through with a suicide that I have been planning for two weeks. It took many people to convince me to come home after running away in my car due to severe dissociative episodes triggered by old and new trauma related to sexual assault I experienced in the last mental hospital I was in, and a series of unfortunate events after that resulted in my dissociative disorder breaking through and causing lost time, a lot of personality switching and paranoid delusions etc. People with NPD and ASPD even are often prone to being victims of abuse due to our ego and need for control or unstable self image being very easy to manipulate. We are accused of lovebombing but lovebombing is an intentional abuse tactic used by abusers to disorient the victim and start creating a trauma bond (a mutually harmful relationship built on push pull dynamics that often leads to escalating behavior from both parties, although often there is a perpetrator and victim in the beginning before it gets blurry and both partners are causing harm in reaction to one anothers own disorders and behaviors.)

Despite all my insane behavior during this breakdown, I can't thank the community enough for the members who have chosen to reach out and support me and push me towards seeking help before it's too late. To people who have harmed me and not taken accountability, I have no ill will towards you and wish you the help you need with whatever you're going through whether that's suicidal ideation, drug addiction, abusive or harmful behavior that was intentional or not. Taking ownership and just saying sorry goes a long way for most people.

If you are ever in a similar position due to collapse, abuse, or other major life stressors (divorce, job loss, family deaths, etc), please reach out for help.

We have and probably unfortunately will lose more members within this community to suicide. The threat of harm to ourselves is very real. It is not something to be mocked or twisted to fit others narratives, and the person experiencing suicidality should be listened to and urged to seek professional help. So that is the gift I can give myself and the community, to go seek a higher level of care while I am so destabilized.

Take care of yourselves narc fam, I will see you guys when I am out of treatment. My point of contact is u/GrimReligion if anyone needs to contact me.

NPD Awareness Month || Suicide Myths vs Facts

One of the most harmful and least discussed myths about narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is this:

“Narcissists don’t get suicidal.”
“They love themselves too much to want to die.”

This is a dangerous belief that erases suffering. It blocks intervention. And it contributes to one of the highest-risk groups being routinely ignored in suicide prevention efforts.

“They just threaten suicide to manipulate people.”

What are your recommended podcasts, youtube videos, articles, books, etc?

What podcasts, youtube videos, articles, books, etc have you stumbled upon that relate to GATE/TAG etc that either directly explore it or are similar interests? I have a very long drive tomorrow and could use some entertainment.

One of my favorites was "'PSYCHIC Program!' - Neuroscientist on Remote Viewing, STARGATE & Telepathy | Julia Mossbridge • 415" and "How to Remote View & Increase Psychic Abilities with Telepathy Tapes Researcher"

When listening to Julia speak, I feel like I am listening to myself... our life and mental health philosophies are so insanely similar. It feels like a soul connection. Not in some creepy parasocial way, but in some healing wholesome validating way... like I've always felt so different from everyone my whole life, and every now and then I hear of or meet someone who just gets it.. like people here in this sub or Julia. Her memoir type book "Have a nice disclosure" is also super interesting and sparked me to look into my own past and history and question some things.

I also found the documentary on the gateway tapes very interesting which can be watched here "CIA full report on Brain Synchronization, Energy, Manifestation and the Holographic Universe"

Anyway, post some links!! Then we can maybe get a megathread started for folks eventually. I am not a big podcast/youtube person so I dont even know where to start but want to start listening to more peoples personal experiences and related subjects etc.

Thanks guys :)

Community Updates: New Wiki Resource Hub, Now Accepting Research Opportunities

Community Update: New Resource Wiki + Research Opportunities

Hi everyone,

We have two community updates to share.

New r/NPD Resource Wiki

We’ve created a new resource hub for people living with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, pathological narcissism, or significant narcissistic traits.

The wiki includes:

  • NPD education and recovery websites
  • Peer-support Discord communities
  • Narc Club meeting information
  • Constellations App - Journaling, symptom-tracking, and self-management tools for dissociation or ego self states
  • Privacy and peer-support safety guidance

View the r/NPD Resource Wiki

We plan to keep expanding this page. If you know of a constructive, stigma-conscious resource that belongs there, send the moderators a message. Inclusion is at the moderation team’s discretion and does not constitute an endorsement.

Research Opportunities

We are also accepting submissions from researchers who want to recruit r/NPD community members for relevant studies.

Research requests must be submitted to the moderation team for approval before being posted. Please include:

  • Your name and institutional affiliation
  • The purpose of the study
  • Participant eligibility requirements
  • What participation involves
  • Compensation, if offered
  • Privacy and data-handling information
  • Institutional review board or ethics approval
  • A direct contact method for the research team

Unapproved recruitment posts may be removed. Approval allows a study to be shared with the community but does not mean that Reddit or the r/NPD moderation team endorses the study or guarantees its safety.

Participation in research is always voluntary. Review the consent materials carefully, protect your personal information, and contact the researchers directly with questions before participating.

Thank you to everyone helping us make r/NPD a more useful, informed, and supportive community.

Happy 3rd Annual NPD Awareness Month! + Grand Opening of NPDAwareness.com

Hey Narc Fam,

Happy 3rd annual NPD awareness month! And the grand opening of NPDAwareness.com - another free website for us narcissists, along with my other entirely free website NPD-Recovery.com

https://preview.redd.it/el45nrcnqqah1.png?width=7000&format=png&auto=webp&s=39fc1814ca2b8dc672506439fabaa3195de06474

https://preview.redd.it/bftmb6d6rqah1.png?width=1924&format=png&auto=webp&s=83309e0ef39837853f01d91fdbfdea94c42b71f9

Remember when those haters thought this was a bad idea and wouldn't ever go anywhere? Well, well, well... look at that... positive consequences to our own actions! Each of you who post with the NPD awareness tag or hashtags on other social media sites *are making a difference.* Every bit of fighting stigma adds up. We are out here defying the narratives that pop psychology spreads against us and breaking the cycles and healing ourselves. We now have a zoom support group called Narc Club with multiple meetings a week, with many different facilitators (thanks u/narcclub for creating such a supportive peer support zoom group.)

What is NPD Awareness Month?

A community inspired month long event every July to help increase awareness of narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder, and decrease stigma and myths that are commonly spread.

What will be posted?

Content involving…

  • common misbeliefs and myths about narcissism and NPD
  • personal stories of recovery including collapses and the ugly parts of the disorder
  • articles clarifying common misused definitions (grandiose =/= overt, vulnerable does not equal covert, what is narc injury, collapse, supply, etc)
  • Links to resources for self help and self improvement
  • Maybe some other stuffffff…..???? Shrugs. Graphics for people to share, art people have made, poetry, who knows!

Who can post for NPD Awareness Month?

As much as I would LOVE to be in control of everything……. It is in my best interest to not be. And yours. Hahaha. Any narcissist can post for NPD Awareness month. I have created a specific flair for NPD awareness that people can apply to their posts. Please include a snippet in your post about why this fits NPD awareness and what the goal of your post is. For example, if you’ve made art, share a short artists statement about your work, if you write up a recovery story share what stigma you’re hoping to challenge, etc.

Make a submission for the NPDAwareness or NPD-Recovery websites. reminder! these websites are entirely free, no catch. no advertising, no donation links, nothing. Just peers helping each other and proving everyone wrong about us.

Where is NPD Awareness Month content being posted?

Right now here on r/NPD and r/narcissism, as well the NPD-Recovery and NPDAwareness website. Please feel free to repost anything that I post on other platforms, just try to link back to the original post when you can. And ask other authors individually for consent via comments or messages, if you want to repost their content as well.

Teamwork makes the dreamwork! I am so proud of all of you. Let's all keep up the great work and keep trudging and going despite what stigma and pop psychology says about us. We can prove them wrong!

Research Opportunity: NPD/ASPD + Leftist/Progressive Values

We have been contacted by some students doing research and have decided to allow them to use the community to gather responses. I am posting on their behalf. You can contact u/DanielAbsence for more information.

-----------

Hello everyone,

We are students in a Master’s Sociology course at the Italian university Milano-Bicocca, currently conducting research for our final exam project under the supervision of Professor Barbara Grüning. Our study has been officially authorized by the university. If anyone has questions about the project or its legitimacy, Professor Grüning can be contacted here: https://www.unimib.it/barbara-gruning

Our research focuses on NPD and ASPD, specifically examining how current cultural and even scientific narratives often associate these disorders with political conservatism, emotional indifference, or lack of social concern. We are interested in exploring cases that complicate or challenge that assumption.

In particular, we are conducting a qualitative study on people with traits, diagnoses, or lived experiences related to NPD and/or ASPD who identify with leftist or progressive values, engage with social and political issues, or are involved in activism, mutual aid, community care, or broader social questions.

We are currently looking for participants and would greatly appreciate support from this community. If permitted by the moderators, we would like to share our survey here. We would also appreciate crossposting to related communities such as r/aspd if possible, though even participation from this community alone would be extremely valuable to us.

We understand these topics are often heavily stigmatized, which is part of why we believe this research matters. Our goal is not to reinforce stereotypes, but to investigate experiences and perspectives that are often ignored in public discourse.

For transparency: the research itself is being written in Italian, but we are happy to share the completed study once it is finished and translated into English. We estimate the project will likely take around two more months to complete.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Best regards

Narcissism Through the Lens of IFS Therapy: Compassion and Connection - A RESOURCE FOR BOTH NARCISSISTS AND THEIR LOVED ONES!

Copy/paste of this article Written By Bryce MacEwen, BSW, RSW

Narcissism... This issue was hardly talked about up until a decade ago, when interest in narcissism and Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) seemed to explode across the internet and social media platforms. In some ways, this has been a good thing. We are finally talking about and understanding the ways in which people have been belittled, manipulated, and harmed by others. On the other hand, I find the way narcissism is being talked about to be misleading—and actually contributing to the problem.

When we hear the word “narcissism,” many of us picture someone who is self-absorbed, arrogant, or manipulative. Narcissistic behaviour can indeed look like that on the surface, but when we dig deeper—especially from the perspective of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy—we begin to see a more complex story. One that is rooted in trauma, insecurity, and the longing for connection. IFS provides a compassionate framework to understand narcissism, and it also offers tools that friends and family can use to support healthier relationships with those who show narcissistic behaviours.

What is IFS Therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a form of psychotherapy that views the mind as a system of different “parts,” each with its own feelings, thoughts, and roles. These parts can be protective, reactive, or vulnerable, and they work together to manage our emotions and experiences. The goal of IFS is to foster an internal sense of harmony by understanding and healing wounded parts that have become stuck in defensive or reactive patterns.

In the context of narcissism, IFS sees narcissistic behaviours not as an identity but as a protective mechanism. People showing these behaviours often have parts of themselves that are defending against deep-rooted feelings of shame, fear, and worthlessness—emotions they may not even be consciously aware of.

Narcissism as a Protector

From the IFS perspective, narcissism is a defense system—a way to shield the more vulnerable parts of oneself from being hurt. This understanding is crucial because it shifts the narrative from judgmental labels like “selfish” or “manipulative” to a more compassionate stance. Narcissism, in this view, is an extreme protector part that steps in to keep the individual from feeling rejected or inadequate.

These individuals may have experienced significant trauma, emotional neglect, or unstable attachments early in life. As a result, they developed a part (or collection of parts) that seeks admiration, validation, and control to protect them from feeling unworthy. They may act grandiose or entitled, not because they truly believe they are superior, but because their internal world is filled with deep-seated pain and insecurity.

Narcissism and Relationships

For those in relationships with someone showing narcissistic behaviours, it can feel like walking on eggshells. Narcissistic individuals often become defensive when criticized and may struggle with empathy. This can make it challenging for family and friends, leading to feelings of stress, anxiety, and even depression. Narcissists may also struggle to connect emotionally, leaving those around them feeling invalidated or overlooked.

But here’s the thing: IFS encourages us to look beyond the behaviour and see the wounded parts that are driving it. Instead of focusing on the surface-level arrogance or selfishness, we’re invited to practice empathy and compassion for the pain and trauma these individuals are carrying inside.

Compassion Without Enabling

One of the biggest challenges for friends and family is finding the distinction between showing compassion and enabling unhealthy or destructive behaviour. It’s important to understand that while the narcissist’s protective parts are trying to keep them safe from their own internal pain, their actions can still cause harm to those around them.

IFS teaches us that we can have compassion without losing our boundaries. We can understand that someone’s narcissistic behaviour stems from their trauma and inner turmoil, but we don’t have to tolerate mistreatment. Healthy relationships require mutual respect, empathy, and understanding. If these elements are missing, it’s okay to set boundaries to protect your own emotional well-being.

Strategies for Supporting Someone with Narcissistic Behaviours

So, how can you support someone who shows narcissistic behaviours without losing yourself in the process? Here are some strategies rooted in empathy and self-care that can help you navigate these tricky dynamics:

  1. Understand Their Trauma

Try to remember that narcissistic behaviours are often rooted in trauma and emotional pain. While this doesn’t excuse bad behaviour, it can help you shift from a judgmental perspective to a more compassionate one. By recognizing that their grandiosity or defensiveness is a way of protecting their vulnerable parts, you may find it easier to interact with them.

  1. Maintain Your Boundaries

While it’s important to practice empathy, it’s equally important to protect your own mental health. Set clear boundaries to ensure that you are not enabling harmful behaviours or compromising your own needs. Narcissistic individuals may push back against boundaries, but it’s important to stay firm while remaining calm and compassionate.

For example, you could say something like, “I understand that you’re feeling upset, but I won’t engage in this conversation if you’re going to insult me.”

  1. Avoid Confrontational Criticism

Narcissistic individuals tend to react poorly to criticism because it triggers their feelings of shame and unworthiness. Instead of confronting them in a harsh or judgmental way, try to approach difficult conversations with curiosity and a non-judgmental tone. Focus on how their behaviour makes you feel rather than accusing them of wrongdoing.

For instance, instead of saying, “You never listen to me,” you could say, “I feel really unheard when we talk, and it’s hard for me to feel connected to you when that happens.”

  1. Encourage Therapy (Especially IFS)

Therapy can be a powerful tool for individuals showing narcissistic behaviours, but they have to be willing to engage with it. IFS, in particular, offers a gentle, non-confrontational approach to exploring their inner world, which can help them access their more vulnerable parts without feeling attacked or judged. Encourage them to consider counselling or therapy but be aware that pushing too hard may trigger their defenses.

If they are open to it, IFS can help them recognize the protective parts that have been running the show and heal the wounded, traumatized parts beneath the surface.

  1. Take Care of Your Own Mental Health

Being in a relationship with someone who shows narcissistic tendencies can be draining. The constant defensiveness, lack of empathy, and need for control can cause significant stress, anxiety, and even depression for those involved. It’s important to prioritize your own mental health by seeking therapy or counselling yourself if needed.

Therapy can help you process the emotional toll of the relationship, learn how to set healthy boundaries, and develop strategies for managing the stress and anxiety that may arise from dealing with a narcissist. Self-care is essential, and it’s okay to seek help for your own well-being.

Moving Forward with Compassion and Clarity

Narcissism is a complex issue, but from an IFS therapy perspective, it becomes easier to understand that these behaviours stem from unhealed trauma, fear, and insecurity. By shifting from a judgmental stance to one of empathy and compassion, we can create a space where healing is possible—for both the individual and those around them.

However, compassion doesn’t mean abandoning your own needs. Maintaining strong boundaries and seeking support through counselling and therapy are essential steps for anyone connected to a narcissistic individual. In the end, it’s about finding a balance between understanding their pain and taking care of your own mental health, ensuring that everyone involved can move toward healing and growth.

I can't remember where I found this article, so if you posted it here or in the comments somewhere, lmk so i can credit you.

Anyway, I stumbled upon this somewhere and since I am starting IFS therapy soon I thought I would share it. It does somewhat lean on the IF YOUR LOVED ONE IS NPD...... tone, but it is heavily destigmatized compared to so many articles out there and shows how narcissism can present from a parts perspective. And is also informative for us!

IF YOU HAVE DONE IFS or parts work, feel free to share your experience in the comments or by making your own post.

Thanks narc fam, appreciate you!

Ask a Narcissist! A bi weekly post for non-narcissists to ask us anything!

Have a question about narcissistic personality disorder or narcissistic traits? Welcome to the bi-weekly post for non-narcs to ask us anything! We’re here to help destigmatize the myths surrounding NPD and narcissism in general.

Some rules:

* Non narcs: please refrain from armchair diagnosing people in your life. *Only refer to them as NPD if they were actually diagnosed by an unbiased licensed professional (aka not your own therapist or an internet therapist that you think fits the description of the person you’re accusing of being a narcissist)*
* This is not a post for non-narcs or narcs to be abusive towards anyone. Please report any comments or questions that are not made in good faith.
* This is not a place to ask if your ex/mom/friend/boss/dog is a narcissist.
* This is not a place to ask if you yourself are a narcissist.

Thanks! Let’s all be civil and take some more baby steps towards fighting stigma and increasing awareness.

**This thread will be locked after two weeks and you can find the new one by searching the sub via the “Ask a Narc” flair**
