What should i be doing?

I’m trying to get into KSP career mode, but I feel kind of locked out of every contract available. Its almost all conducting temp scans. But at the point I’m at I don’t have any parts good enough to complete these contracts.
Should I be grinding or am I missing something?
If so, should I be grinding science, money, or rep? I wanna upgrade the assembly building so I can finally make better rockets, but I’m ~100k away.

Why am I still tilting?

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong at this point, I've used symmetry to make sure the fins line up, I've checked the aerodynamics overlay in building and it looks fine, and I'm not sure what is happening anymore. Ignore the middle booster misfiring, my finger twitched lol.

I'm trying to fulfill a contract to test a heat shield and my idea was to use the engines to lift off and activate the middle booster once they ran out. Halp
