Free ticket sharing

Hey Roots fans,

I built a simple, free site called thepassbayarea.com to help Bay Area supporters pass unused tickets directly to other fans instead of letting them go to waste.

Started it with Bay FC and the Valkyries, but just added the Roots after a bunch of people asked for it.

If you have extra tickets to an upcoming match that you can't use, you can post them there. It runs a simple, fair lottery for fans looking to claim them right up until kickoff. Everything is completely free. The goal is to make sure seats get filled and help more people make it out to the games.

Feel free to check it out or pass along any tickets you won't be using. Appreciate any feedback!

Why sold-out Valkyries games still have empty seats; and the free tool I built to fix it

Mods gave me the go-ahead to post this. I'm a Bay Area fan and I built the thing below.

TL;DR: The Valkyries have sold out all home games to date, and thousands of seats still sit empty, because "sold out" counts tickets sold, not people in the building. The Pass is a free way to hand seats you can't use to a fan who can go. 122 seats have moved fan-to-fan so far. No fees or resale.

The Problem

When a team announces attendance, they're counting tickets distributed, not people who walked through the gate. Industry no-show rates run 10–20% for stadium events. It's not a Valkyries thing or a WNBA thing. It's everywhere.

At Chase Center last season: 18,064 seats, 22 sold-out home games, 397,408 total attendance: all-time WNBA records. At a 10–20% no-show rate, that's roughly 2,000+ empty seats on a sold-out night.

Meanwhile we all know someone who'd give anything to be in one of them.

Both things are true at once. That's the whole problem.

What The Pass does

thepassbayarea.com - free, no app to install.

If you can't make a game:

  1. Post your seats. Takes seconds and works even after tip-off. (Latest I've seen is someone getting in for the 4th quarter)
  2. The raffle system randomly picks a winner, which switches to instant claim when the game gets too close
  3. You send the tickets through the team's official ticketing app, same as sending them to a friend.

If you want to go: enter raffles for upcoming games, or grab an instant claim when someone posts late. Show up. Get loud.

Why it's built this way

  • A raffle, not first-come. First-come rewards whoever's staring at their phone. A raffle gives the fan working a shift the same shot as the person refreshing at their desk.
  • Free only. The moment money enters, this becomes a marketplace and every incentive flips. It works because a seat that would sit empty has no better use than being given away.
  • We never touch your tickets. Transfers go through the team's own official system. It's the same free transfer the club already built for you.

Where it's at

(from May to July 2026)

  • 1,200 Bay Area fans
  • 122 seats passed, fan to fan
  • $0 charged, ever
  • Valkyries first. Bay FC now live too.

All of it with zero advertising, it grew because people in communities like this one told other people.

If you've got seats you can't use this season, someone in here will be thrilled to take them. That's the whole thing. I'll be in the comments.

Chase center transit guide

Chase center just published a new transit guide. Thought it was useful! I didn’t know about the bike valet.

Standard Deviant Brewing Valkyries Community

Sparks vs. Valkyries is Monday, and if you can't make it to Chase Center, there's a great spot to watch: Standard Deviant Brewing's new Pier 70 location in Dogpatch. They're showing the Valkyries games, the beer's great, and they're close to the arena. Perfect for a pregame or a full watch party. Show a local spot some love for backing women's sports.

Full disclosure on why I'm posting: I made a small free project called The Pass, when someone has seats they can't use, they pass them on to keep the Ballhalla loud for them. Standard Deviant just became our first community partner!

On Monday:

  • Come watch at Standard Deviant.
  • Watch out for seats passed last-minute on The Pass if you still want to get in.
  • Got a seat you can't use? Pass it on instead of letting it sit empty, someone will be thrilled.

I'll be there. Come say hi. Every seat deserves a fan.

Tuesdays game is $11. That's half the price of a beer inside

If you've been wanting to make it to a game, or you have friends who haven't made it yet, its time.

Golden State Valkyries tickets are $11 on Tuesday

If you've been curious about the Valkyries but haven't made it to a game yet, Tuesday you have to go.

The Golden State Valkyries play at Chase Center and they're genuinely good this season after making the playoffs last season. The atmosphere is loud, it's fun, and it's a completely different energy than a Warriors game.

Public transit is free with your ticket.

Bring a friend who's never been!

Go see a game!

I was inspired by a post on r/dallaswings. I have been to several games now and all I can say is GO!

Ballhalla is electric. The energy in that building is unlike any other. This fan base is so fun to be around, and I think the team is going to be special this year. The tickets are affordable and if you’re in the city, transit is free! I have so many friends who keep saying they want to go and haven’t made it yet. Stop waiting.

Best Valkyries Merch?

I saw these hats at Jack’s in the Marina. I like seeing more Valkyries merch in the wild. Who are your favorite brands for that?
