Great Coffee near Bus Station?

Hi All- I need to be at the bus station before 8 AM on a cold January morning. Where can I find the best Latte within a short walk? I found fortitude, but looks like they don't open until 9. I will be coming from York Place/Leith Street. Thanks!

Obsessed with Avocados

My little weirdo, Leopold, has developed an unnatural relationship with avocados. Pulls them from our tree, digs around looking for windfalls from the neighbours, and hides them for later. He doesn’t try and eat them, just carries them around!

Water of Leith Walkway Itinerary Plan ?

Hi All- I will be in Edinburgh (2nd trip) for 5 days in January. My tentative Saturday morning plan is to start at the Modern One, walk to the Starbank Inn or other recommendation for fish & chips, then wander down Leith Way and browse charity shops. I am on the fence about hitting Grassmarket before I start that. I try not to do ultra-touristy things when possible and would not plan on eating while there. Thoughts? I did really enjoy Stockbridge market when last there. Is is a similar vibe? Before one comments on the weather, please note I was raised in Vermont and love cold, rainy, winter weather, so I am not much dismayed by that prospect.

Just in case one is curious, my plans also include a Rabi's tour to Hadrian's Wall (This will be the only guided tour I have ever taken. I will be there without a car and visiting Hadrian's Wall seems rather impossible if not in a tour group). I also plan to take the train to Glasgow for a full day (Possible spend the night there and get most of a second day out of that experience).

I would like to eat at Dishoom at some point, as I am still dreaming about their black dal from my visit 5 years ago. Would love your thoughts.

I will never go to Texas again

Location: Texas
I was recently visiting my kid at Ft Bliss ( El Paso) where I was detained at the gate for a 29 year old misdemeanour theft warrant out of Bexar County . I was completely unaware and (obviously) would have resolved it in 1996. I was then held at the El Paso jail for 36 hours before posting bond. I was in handcuffs for 30 hours and shackles for 12. It was traumatic. I had swollen, bruised wrists. After multiple calls, I found out it was for a $60 bad check. They told me if I sent them the $60, they would have the case dropped. I sent them a money order same day. The clerk was actually pretty nice and could not believe I was actually arrested for that. I had a pretty bad drug problem in my 20s and had multiple bad checks and theft charges. I got my life together in 1997, left the state, and have been in recovery for 28 years. In 2005, I actually reached out to the state of Texas to ensure there was nothing criminal outstanding and I had cleared the wreckage of my past. Everything on the record had been cleared. The clerk stated this case wasn’t even filed until 2015. Now I wait to confirm it is resolved. Is it legal to file a case for a $60 bad check 19 years after it was written??? Do I have a legal case? How would I go about addressing that? Honestly, I would really like to be reimbursed for the $5,000 this has cost to bond out, fly home, etc. I will process the trauma with my therapist.
