Genuine question about sleep training

Let me preface by saying, I am not going to sleep train and I personally don’t agree with letting my baby cry.
But my question is, are babies/kids really affected negatively by sleep training? My neighbors have sleep trained their kids. They seem well adjusted. My friend came for an overnight stay with her baby who is sleep trained . She’s also a happy baby. And I will admit that I did get a little bit envious because her baby put herself to sleep and only woke up once at night.
So I’m genuinely curious if sleep training has such an adverse effect?

I can’t sleep train because I can’t see my baby cry. But I’m curious about people who have sleep trained their babies.

My baby has never been a good sleeper. Occasionally I’ve gotten 4 hour stretches. Very rare.

The 4 month regression hit me at 3 months and she was waking every hour or every 20 min sometimes. I had posted earlier too. And I got advice to shift her bedtime to later. That gave me 1-1.5 weeks of one stretch of 3 hours in the beginning. And then it’s back to waking hourly. A good night is her waking every 2 hours, nursing for 5 min and going back to sleep.

Since the last couple of nights she’s had split nights again. Wakes up for an hour. She’s sleepy. Wants to go back to sleep but feeding doesn’t help. I have to give it some time, then pat or rock and then feed her again to help her sleep. So wake up time also gets pushed by an hour.

This is her current schedule. She’s on 4 naps. Each nap is 40 min. One nap is 1 hour 20 min( I try and cap this.it usually the second nap) total daytime sleep is 3-3.5.

Bedtime- 8.30 pm (roughly-it’s between 8-9)

Wake up 6.50 am (normally it’s between 6.30-7.30)

Wakewindows- 1.75/2/2/2/2.4

Her last nap is 40 min mostly. It’s between 5.45-6. And I try to cap it at 40 min.

Should I cap it for even lesser duration? Like 20 min?
