ECE Grad in Software Industry Looking to Transition into Core VLSI

Hi everyone,

I completed my B.Tech in ECE in 2023 and have been working at a startup for the past 2.6 years as a backend + DevOps engineer. Lately, though, my day-to-day work has started feeling repetitive , a lot of prompting, reviewing LLM-generated code, and less actual engineering/problem-solving. I feel like the cognitive thrill is fading for me.

Because of that, I’ve been seriously considering switching to VLSI. I don’t mind starting over if needed; whether that means pursuing a Master’s abroad or joining a training institute like Maven Silicon. I’m still exploring the different domains within VLSI, but I’m especially drawn toward areas that are closely connected to physics and core engineering concepts.

Would this be considered a bad move career-wise? How difficult is it for someone with my background to break into the industry right now? Also, is the current VLSI job market favorable for fresh entrants/switchers, or is it heavily saturated?

Would really appreciate honest opinions and guidance from people already in the field.
