Update Central Vacuum or new canister vacuum?

Our house came with an Aerus Centralux vacuum cleaner. I've replaced the hose and had the powerhead fixed but our cleaner has until now preferred using a dyson we had from our old house instead. I'm going to ask why, if lugging the hose around was the big issue then that makes the choice pretty clear.

For the central vacuum or current powerhead is the N137S which uses what seems to be a proprietary Aerus system for power delivery.

Is this powerhead comparable in performance to other options (e.g. Sebo ET-1)? Or is it worth upgrading the powerhead?

My brief research seems to indicate I'd need to get an entirely new hose and wand to be able to use any other powerhead. I was hoping there might be an adapter for connecting a different powerhead to an Aerus wand/handle.

At that point does it make sense to invest in a better stand alone canister vacuum like a miele or a sebo?

For context we have 4 long haired cats so at a minimum the ET-1 was interesting from the ease of cleaning the roller.

My budget is flexible-ish. I'm mostly trying to figure out if investing in the central vacuum makes sense or if we make the switch to a good canister vacuum.

Door handle broke

I was cooking some ribs the other weekend and the fuel door handle finally gave up. I think putting a seal around the inside of the door applied too much pressure to the clip on the inside and torqued the bolt enough to strip it.

Found a pretty easy fix. Drilled the hole out and counter sunk the outside facing side so I could drop a stainless steel bolt through and use a stainless steel wing nut on the other side to tighten it up.

Haven’t cooked with it yet but it works great for opening and closing so far.

Sorry it is a bit of a mess, it’s going on 13 or 14 years old now!

This post was the inspiration for the fix
