Yoon Dan-bi debuted with the superb “Moving On” back in 2019, a film that made my top 10 that year. Since then, I’ve been patiently waiting for her second feature, but she took her sweet time with it. The wait, though, is finally over! Toronto International Film Festival just announced their Platform competition titles and within them is “The World Before”, directed by Yoon Dan-bi. Looking forward to this one very much!

The film has been invited to the Toronto International Film Festival Special Presentation Section. The film stars Sol Kyung-gu, Jeon Do-yeon, Cho Yeo-jeong and Jo In-sung, all of who are seen here in this first official still. Ladies and gents, we are one step closer to a new Lee Chang-dong film! 🥹🥹 I, for one, am very, very hyped for this and it might just be my most anticipated film of the year!

It is scheduled to release in South Korea over the Chuseok holidays this year.

The recent arrival of “The Witch: Part 2. the Other One” means that my Park Hoon-jung collection is now complete!

Having started off as a writer on both Kim Jee-woon’s “I Saw the Devil” and Ryoo Seung-wan’s “The Unjust” in the same year, he swiftly transitioned to directing himself with the historical “The Showdown”. While that film is probably his weakest so far for me, pretty much everything else that he’s directed since has had high entertainment value for me. Yes, even “The Witch: Part 2. The Other One”, which may not live up to the expectations the first one left us with, but still entertained well enough with its strong action sequences and the lovely Shin Si-ah. My favourite, however, still remains “New World”, which just is a superlative gangster thriller with terrific writing, direction and acting. Truly Park Hoon-jung at his absolute best!

Now I can’t wait to see his latest “Tristes Tropiques” and hope that he starts production on The Witch 3 (Part 2 ends exactly where I wanted to see that film go) and that someone somewhere releases “Night in Paradise” physically as well so that we can have his complete feature filmography on disc!

Ma Dong-seok will return next year as the one-punch hit machine detective Ma Seok-do for the the fifth entry in The Outlaws/The Roundup series! Joining him this time as the film’s big baddie is Kim Jae-young, who plays the villain Lee Kang-tae.

Also joining the cast are Seo Hyun-woo, Lee Hak-ju, Baek Hyun-jin and Kim Min-ho. Director Heo Myeong-haeng, who handled martial arts duties for the previous entires before helming “The Roundup: Punishment”, returns to the director chair.

88 Films will be releasing a Shaw Bros Triple Feature boxset with “Shaolin Prince, “Shaolin Intruders” and “Two Champions of Shaolin” and will be upgrading the mental “The Story of Ricky Oh” to 4K UHD in July. The same month will also see standard edition releases for “In the Line of Duty 1-4”.
