The real reason mages use staffs (picture is a giant spoiler for the golden land arc)

Certain spells can blow back and injure the caster. Especially if the caster is running low on mana or has bad mana control and can't protect their hands.

It would also make sense why you start off apprentice mages with staffs. You don't want a kid accidentally blowing off their own arm if they mess up a spell. Then from there it just probably becomes a habit for most mages to keep using a staff.

The mages we see not using staffs in current day are Richter; a mage who doesn't use energy based attack spells. And mages like Falsche and Sense who also don't use energy based attacks. (By energy based attack spells I mean a spell that creates a substance that's directly destructive ie. Zoltrack, Vollzanbel, Judrajim, Catastravia, etc.)

Genau is the one exception who does use an energy based attack spell with his hands but we only see him use that spell as a quick draw attack we never see him use it in serious combat.

Mages like Flamme and Serie have enough mana to where they would never have to worry about accidentally injuring themselves. But even then Flamme still doesn't shoot the spell we see her kill the three demons following her and Frieren out of her hand. The spell she cast appears instantly on top of her opponents. The spell itself never actually goes near her.

Serie can be disregarded since she has so much mana and her mana control is so ridiculously good it would be nearly impossible for her to be damaged by her own spells.

Genau wears thigh high boots

You can't really see it in season 2 since he's wearing a tunic/2nd coat but he really does have them on under there. Idk why but it just tickles me that he was fighting Revolte in thigh high leather boots.

I also have a sneaking suspicion Falsch has black thigh high leather boots as part of his regular FCM uniform but I don't have concrete evidence yet I will report back on this later.

Edit: I have found 2 panels of Falsch full body and he does in fact have black thigh high boots. They're clearest in chapter 133 page 12. Even more fun, his tunic has a thigh slit. I tried checking Lernen but that man genuinely dresses like a nun, we may have to wait for confirmation in season 3 if they give us a Lernen fan service up skirt shot.

What if...Sense was sent to suppress demons in the northern plateau.

The story I had in my head when I was drawing this is that Sense also collects the dead bodies in the village and sets up camp in the church watching over them until the chivalric order of Norm gets there.

She stays with her mana suppressed all day until she detects one of the demons nearby. Sense then lets out a little burst of mana to lure the demons inside the church.

Hemmung and Zorida rush in first. Hemmung is too slow to avoid Sense's hair and gets snared. Zorida lasts a little longer but gets a sneak attack tentacle to the back after getting worn down.

Revolte rushes in and starts getting tangled up in the loose threads of hair hanging from every surface. He's left too distracted to notice the hair slithering up the walls and across the rafters, silently trapping Revolte inside the church with Sense.

In my head canon Revolte promptly gets lobotomized by one of Sense's drills or turned to Swiss cheese. There's only so much four arms can block.

Also suggest some other what if fights. I'll pick one that seems fun to draw from the suggestions. Or if there's a really popular suggestion I'll do that(also make sure you put who wins or else I get to decide if I draw it).

Also also the artist is me(except the background its from the anime).

Do yall think Lernen pulled a Stark

I just noticed that right before Edel runs in to get Macht's memories shes holding Lernen's hand and has that look of cencentration like when she's using her mental magic with Denken.

Its my own personal theory that she was asking Lernen if he could make an opening for her to go in and touch Macht. I don't think Edel was asking him to take a hit but I guess it is a really effective way to make an opening especially against Macht who if they had tried to create an opening using a show of force would probably just use diagoldze on them.

Also if you dont get the title I'm refering to when Stark took a hit to make an opening for Genau when they were fighting Revolte.

Sense's age

Sense has been a first class mage for at the very least 15 years.

(there's only one fcm test every three years. She's proctored 4 of them and she'd have to wait 3 years to proctor a test after passing her own test. 12+3=15).

I also don't think it's very likely Sense proctored all those tests back to back or for that matter started proctoring tests immediately. But maybe she did who knows.

I can't see Sense being any older than thirty or mid thirties. And given the way Serie is treating her like a little girl and calls her a child when thinking back to the scene where she asks for her privilege I think it's safe to say Sense was incredibly young when she became a first class mage. She might even be the youngest mage to become a FCM.

And no I don't think Fern is the youngest mage to become a FCM, she was 18 when she became a FCM. Which is young but not like prodigiously young. The story was also quick to point out she was the youngest third class mage to essentially get a 100 percent on her test. If Fern was the youngest mage to become a FCM I think the story would've very quickly pointed it out.

Also sidenote it's so funny how much of a mom Serie is. Her first instinct upon hearing Sense's request is to comfort her.

My headcanon is the reason she hides away in her throne room is to stop herself from running around picking up every stray human child with talent for magic she comes across.

How is Routine dodging Reelseiden...since you know it's completely invisible to the naked eye.

I think a lot of people forget but Reelseiden to most people just looks like a slash appearing on an object. They don't see a projectile traveling, they just see stuff get cut. Mages can obviously feel it, but someone without mana detection would just be dodging blind.

I wonder if Routine is sensing a change in air pressure, looking for minor movement in dust, or if she's reading Ubel's body/face like a poker player for tells.

Or they could be alluding to her whole fortune telling scene with Denken and she's just guessing. Or I'm just reading too much into it lol.
