How to build comms and PR portfolio when you’ve only worked at one place
I started my career in journalism and have worked in comms for one organization for the past 7 years. I don’t feel like I have much I can show in a portfolio because most of my projects involve other teams (like creative services) and it’s all for one company, so there’s not much range.
How can I get a wider range of experience? I am not sure how to go about finding freelance clients and also not sure what kinds of groups I could offer volunteer or pro bono work to help them and build up my portfolio. I have done a little bit of comms work with my volunteer group but we have someone who has already been leading comms for the group for several years.
Any advice or ideas you have would be helpful. Thank you!
