Sprinter - General Maintenance + vs competition

Hey!

Currently cross shopping between a Ford F150 / Toyota Tundra or a Transit / Sprinter.

Been going back n forth between going with a van or truck w/ camper shell for family life with a 2yr old and my wife, with hopefully one more on the way

We plan to use it for road trips, camping, surfing, snowboarding and I plan to mostly use it as a business vehicle to lug camera gear and lighting around to jobs.

Vans have been enticing for obvious reasons with having everything in one home base and having a walkable and workable space. Being able to park, and walk to the back to work on my laptop sounds real nice.

A truck with GFC/Super Pacific wedge camper sounds great, but setup would be a bit more each time we setup.. Or a van is just ready to go essentially, but we'd have to DIY or give to a shop to outfit.

I wouldn't do too much of an outfit- insulation, ac, heater, bed in back, cabinets, solar, fridge. It would be fairly barebones.

Curious to hear some thoughts on the Sprinter crew van- how reliability / maintenance has been. I'm in Southern California and I'm curious to hear about maintenance scheduling / availability, especially for those who are in the same region.

I would potentially buy it through my business, so curious to see if others have done the same and if there are any incentives from Mercedes / or tax breaks outside of Section 179.

Lastly, curious to hear if you considered the transit before committing to the sprinter!

It's been hard to find nice used transits with the crew model, but there's a plethora of Sprinters available, or I can even order new.. so that is enticing too.

Cheers

2026: F150 vs Tundra

Posted this in the tundra sub, so curious to hear from those who considered a tundra but ended up with a f150 instead!

Hey all, currently spinning in circles deciding on what my next vehicle will be.

Been going back n forth with a van, 4runner or truck for family life with a kiddo, hopefully one more on the way, trips, camping, surfing, snowboarding and mostly as a business vehicle to lug camera gear and lighting around to jobs.

The gen3 engine recalls are scary, but I'm not sure how conflated things are online.

Because of that I started my search with Ford.. which I thought I'd never do outside of a transit van.

The F150 Lariat seems like a sweet zone for Ford, but the transmission horrors are prevalent among people I know so that seems scary as well.

Looking at the Tundra SR5 TRD Rally or a Limited TRD Offroad (may be the pick)

My dream is a 4runner but it's quite too small in the back for when the kid(s) get older.. at least for my taste I guess.

Currently in a 2023 forester wilderness, love this car but it's getting small with our trips + lugging gear to work.

With all that said, curious to see if anybody has done a similar cross-shop and decided on a f150. Would love to hear your thoughts!

I went to two local dealerships to check out both trucks, my heart leans towards the tundra for styling but I know I need to give the F150 a chance. Planning to bring the wifey and kiddo to test drive with a car seat.

Another curveball is that we have a family member that works at a Toyota dealer.. so buying through them is preferred but I'll go F150 if it has to happen haha.

Cheers!
