I hand embroidered a clouded leopard

Sharing more of my work! I made this piece a couple years ago and loved it so much I've committed to keeping it for myself. This is fully hand embroidered with single strand DMC floss, finished in a 6 inch hoop on cotton fabric. The reference image was shared with me by one of this cat's former zookeepers, from which I drew the stencil myself to start this piece. This took me about two months to complete.

Recent haul from a gem show

Elmwood Calcite, calcite on fossilized clam from Florida(green under UV), calcite from (I think) Morocco with no other info I just liked the formation, and a flower amethyst on calcite(red under UV) from Brazil.

Got into hand embroidery 3yrs ago. Now I do realistic wildlife portraits.

Mostly cats, but I've done several red pandas, some birds, etc. This is done entirely by hand and what is called "single strand thread painting." I draw the stencils myself from reference images and use those to create the portraits, usually in 6 inch hoops. Each piece generally takes me 1.5-2 months depending on my focus otherwise I can crank em out in 1. Enjoy! My IG is needlefelis 🩷

love the works in this group and I look forward to posting more of my pieces, new and old!
