I’ve never played a Total War game before. I got Rome 2 (Emperor Edition, no DLC) for free recently through a giveaway. I remember back when it first launched, there was an overwhelming amount of controversy and criticism, and I never heard any further developments as to how things eventually turned out. From what little I’ve researched so far, the game is in better shape but still has some issues.

With that said, should I start with DeI or just the vanilla game? Does this mod fix some of the core issues of the base game, or does it simply add options and complexity that would make my experience as a beginner more difficult?
