“Peruvian food is beans, rice, plantains, and doesn't have flavor. Makes sense bc these are poor countries, so their traditional dishes focus on basic sustenance rather than flavor.”
Does Peruvian food have any flavor?
Commenter doesn’t like South American food, except for Argentina.
Was it worth it for you? (7 Wonders of the World organization debacle)
Machu Picchu losing Wonder of the World Status. The owner of the private organization that owns the 7 wonders of the world brand has been going around Peruvian TV shows threatening to remove the title of wonder of world to Machu Picchu. He claims that he receives thousands of emails every day saying that MP is not worth it and it’s horrible and it’s not deserving of the title of Wonder of the World mostly because of the difficult access, the ticket system (which is mandated by unesco) and because the street vendors are too much.
I went to MP in December and I thought it was amazing. People in my trip also really liked the experience as did many travelers we met in Cusco. So I’d love to get a sense of why there is such disparity between our experience over there and the experience of the travelers that are emailing this man. Are you one of the people that emailed this organization? If you are I’d love to hear why you think this title should be removed from MP.
I personally don’t super like that organization all that much (Angkor Wat not being there is a travesty) and also it was chosen by SMS vote as if it was Eurovision.
This wonder man is saying that MP should be directly administered by the President office of Peru, which is one awful idea if you know anything about Peru politics lol (Peru has been changing Presidents every few months for 10 years). He’s also trying to change the administration of the park from Cusco to Lima. Which is historically tone deaf. Cusco and Lima are historical enemies and MP is a huge part of Inca and Cusco heritage and pride. Giving it to Lima would not be taken well by Cusco at all. It would probably feel like giving MP to the colonizers. Yet this man says that if this does not happen they will remove the title.
Of course MP is overcrowded, the ticket system kinda sucks during high season bc demand is extremely high. But also the Peru gov really can’t do anything about it because UNESCO is forcing them into this system so it doesn’t lose heritage status. It’s an impossible situation. Also this guy does not like UNESCO at all haha per his last interviews.
What do you think? Should Peru chose UNESCO or the 7 wonders of the world company, should they chose Cusco or Lima? Please let us know your thoughts!
Caritas has been on the news quite a bit in my country recently and I want to know our communities opinion of them.
I’m a Catholic youth in the community and I’d love to know some strong arguments in favor of Caritas that I could bring to the conversation going on in my country.
I apologize if this is not allowed.
Thank you so much and God bless you all 🙏
One of the breakout stories in Peru today is that a priest/influencer and Secretary General of the catholic charity Cáritas in Lurin, Peru is facing credible accusations of abuse.
The details are sickening so I won’t post them here. But that guy manages a home for vulnerable kids.
Cáritas, the catholic charity rakes in around 1 billion euros annually in donations and manages homes for vulnerable children all around Latin America and the world.
What’s your country’s perception of them? If you’re catholic yourself, do you believe this is an isolated incident that doesn’t represent a pattern?
Thanks!
