I went to 3 different opticians and was given widely varying prescriptions, after only 5-10 minute exam. Which shops in town offer more thorough (and accurate, if possible) exams? My GP refuses to give me a referral to an ophthalmologist/ optometrist. My vision is deteriorating and my glasses (with a complicated prescription) no longer help.

My long-term but temporary job ended last week and I have started job hunting. Two roles that I’m interested in indicated a start date in September. I’ve a long holiday planned in November— would that be a hard no from the employer if I disclosed it at the interview? What if I’m offered a job (offers are legally binding?) and inform the company afterwards? I fully intend it to be an unpaid holiday btw.,
