and just like that... I gave AJLT a second chance. (SATC related)

Like pretty much everyone, I HATED 'and just like that' when it came out. Where were the 4 friends we knew and loved? Why was it so damn "woke" and ridiculous. These plot holes were killing me (even thought that was a SATC speciality from the start lol)

But then I did a SATC marathon. It's my comfort show and often just playing in the background. I finished it yet again, watched the movies. Yes, even the god awful second film (which comes into play later). Decided what the hell I'll try watching AJLT again.

Something dawned on me. Maybe everyone knows this, btw. But I just realized it.

They tried to pitch to a new generation. It's that simple. They forgot their core base are millennials who loved how problematic and not PC the original show was. From Carrie stating bisexuality doesn't exist, to slut shaming Samantha, to mocking jews, tropes of gay men, women being desperate for a man.... those were the times we lived in. It was comforting to see a show where the reality of everyday "thinking" as awful as it might have been was fully displayed with no fear of being cancelled. The show or the actors themselves.

But in todays world, probably 75% of the topics and plot lines they did would have caused an uproar. So they pandered to the newer generation. A gamble that lost horribly. The newer generation doesn't have the attachment to original characters like we did. In the second film they tried to be what we new and loved, but it bombed because we also live in a world that is PC now. So for the reboot they decided to lean HARD into opposite of the second film. Instead of tone deaf cultural insensitivity (which was the major complaint, that and luxury and the out of character stories) they displayed in the movie they went WOKE AF.

Basically, they couldn't figure out a middle ground. So they went with current climate, not realizing mega fans are going to be in their 40-50s. Trying to bring Aiden back, even though he was pretty universally hated when the show aired as a call back to fans of SATC bit them in the ass too.

What do you guys think? Been stuck in my head the last few days and wondering if others agree.

LEOs: What was your breaking point? How did you cope?

My husband recently retired after serving for 14 years. He wasn't up for retirement, nor did he want to. But mentally he couldn't take the judicial system anymore.

For my husband it was a particular case. Frequent flyers for a decade, husband constantly beating the shit out of his wife. She finally left him in 2021. Ex started a campaign of terror against her. Every 3 months or so he would "cross the line" and get arrested, let out the next day. Repeat. For 5 years. My husband went to every single hearing, spoke directly to the DA, tried to show the body cam footage of that POS laughing while being arrested and saying "I'll be out tomorrow they don't give a shit about that bitch." Last time he was arrested was January 26. He was actually kept in jail for the weekend. He got released Monday, went straight to his ex wives work and stabbed her to death.

That man had been arrested TWENTY THREE times in a 5 year period for stalking, agg assault, harassment, you name it. Multiple members of the force would speak to the DA's office explaining how much of a danger and threat he was. The ex wife had protective orders and even when my husband arrest him for violating them, the judges wouldn't do shit.

He just felt there was no point in putting his life at risk to protect the public, when the judicial system made it impossible.

I'm curious how others cope with this sort of PTSD? I knew mentally it was heavy on my husband. After she was killed, he was first on scene and apparently completely broke down. He had to be taken away in an ambulance. When I go to the hospital he just looked at me and said "I'm done." and I knew he meant it. His LT tried to convince him to stay on for pension, but he was done. He's in counseling and seems to be getting slightly better. But still has nightmares almost every night.

I suppose this post is to vent about the judicial system, ask about helping him and really just to see if this is a one off thing. I'm not a police officer. He tried very hard not to mix family and work so I'm not even a creepy wife of a LEO who thinks she's a cop. I'm just trying to get understanding. Thank you all for reading.

Big didn't really leave Carrie at the alter...

I will die on this hill.

Big freaked out, understandably. What went from a small wedding and commitment to each other turned into a massive circus. Miranda warning him. His partner mocking him...

But he changed his mind right away. She could have easily still married him. Yes, she was emotional and thinking he would never commit. But even on the "honeymoon" she says things like "he couldn't get out of the car..."

But he did. And ran to her apologizing and begging her to still marry him. I get it was for the plot, but they could have made it more believable lol. Him ACTUALLY standing her up. Not just having wedding jitters and immediately coming to his senses.

I've argued with so many of my girlfriends about this. Curious what Reddits take is!
