RTO observations
After about ten years of working remotely, I got RTO’ed and have been coming into the Optum HQ building regularly. Basically swiping my badge and hanging out for a bit then going back home to work the remainder of the day. I have no human interaction, as all my meetings are on Teams and I have no colleagues in MSP. Makes zero sense and I get ticked off every day.
Some observations:
I see LOTS of people headed toward the exit doors well before noon with backpacks, obviously heading home for the day.
I’m so tempted to ask security if they see people blatantly scanning their badge, then turn around and leave.
It’s so awkward sitting in a cube near people that you don’t know and they obviously don’t want to be there either.
If they’re looking for voluntary attrition, they may get it with me, I’m looking.
People drive like idiots in the parking ramps, slow it down people.
The cafeteria has a very strange vibe with person-less kiosks, and overpriced food.
Even with RTO, I only see about 20% of cubicles occupied.
Working remotely was the #1 benefit of working for Optum IMO. With no pay increase this year, lower 401K match, additional time and expense of RTO, I feel like I’m going backwards not forward. I thought I’d retire here, but now that’s unlikely due to a policy that makes absolutely zero sense. End of rant.
