moving out w my partner in this economy (entertain me!)

hi all! i came to reddit just for outside perspectives: i’m a young professional who is looking ahead into life and finding out what my best next steps are.
(edited for more info)

for now though, i ask, where do i need to be financially/career wise to afford a place for my partner and i? we are both part time employed, (always applying of course for steady FT) we have 2 pets in our family, and for now we are not in grad school but plan to pursue at some point within the next few years. regarding when is the move, we are not in a rush but i would say in the Sept ‘27 lease year, if not the year after that. but again id rather hear what i may be facing and then think more about the when.
- i see average studio or 1 beds are roughly 2k, we are aiming for a two bed, or at least a space with enough room for our 2 pets.
- currently employed, w savings, applying to find a steady full time position
- no car, and rely on public transit so i understand additional costs related to that
- WE ARE LOOKING TK RENT! realistically will not be homeowners within the next 5 years at least…

i also understand the general “you need to save every penny right now”, but right now im looking for some realistic numbers, or others situations to how they can afford living out here, no random roommates!
how much should we be making?
am i still looking at doing a PT on the side? babysitting gigs?
am i better off applying to apartment complexes? a townhouse? private landlords?

would appreciate any tips, suggestions, or comments regarding the area. thank you all!

(if i crossposted in this sub, i would consider moving to this area because im familiar.)

Hello! I am an employed individual looking for a room to rent come Sept 1. Fiends would describe me as organized and very sociable, while prioritizing me-time. I have no pets, and genuinely do prioritize having a safe and calm space come fall. I do love the Medford/Arlington/Somerville area, but am not picky as long as I have access to T Lines or Bus Stops. I have also been considering East Boston.

Budget <$1200 monthly pay, including utilities (so maybe $950+ utilities)

I am just putting myself out there as I am always looking on Apartments.com, Zillow, and Roomies. Would appreciate any tips or suggestions, thank you all!
