Looking for advice
In March - I was trying to close my account, but I have had a name change.
It’s an account I’ve had since I was a kid, so my dad is on the account.
They would not let me change my name without my dad, nor close the account without the name changed.
My dad cannot easily go in to the bank, and I explained that.
What I did not realize was that they would start charging me a monthly fee for the dormant account.
I reached out via chat, they reimbursed me that single fee.
In April, a charge came out from a recurring payment. I was under the impression that I had it set so no overdrafts could happen, so I was shocked. I explained that I did not understand why they allowed this payment and was told that apparently bank payments will go through (it was via PayPal).
So now I owe $40ish in fees due to not being allowed to close my account.
I’ve fought this over and over, went into a branch, I literally just want to pay the amount that came out with PayPal and be done with them. But they have me on the line for the additional $40 and will not do anything at all to help, using the excuse that they already reimbursed that single fee in March. What can I even do? I feel like I’ve run out of people to escalate this to. I don’t want to pay $40 and I don’t feel it’s right to force me to.
I don’t understand why waiving $40 would be out of the hands of absolutely every single person at a company. Does anyone have any advice on how to escalate this?
