advice for a 15th c swiss kit?
i’ve been wanting to get into medieval/renaissance reenactment, and figured this was a good place to start. I want to do a reislaufer/swiss infantry outfit, but have some uncertainties as sources on them are somewhat scarce and/or show very different things. my previous idea of an accurate mid-late 15th century swiss mercenary included the split hose and long sleeved tunic combination, but after further research and additional advice it seems that an arming doublet and joined hose are a more accurate version? for armor, i’m thinking a sallet with no bevor and some sort of cuirass configuration, likely with a mail collar as i’ve seen in some illustrations? please let me know if there are any inaccuracies so far.
my main areas of confusion are: would a coat of sort sort be worn over the arming doublet and under the plate armor, or would the arming doublet be directly under the armor? additionally, ive seen some differences in closing mechanisms for the arming doublet, as reenactors often use buttons or points but illustrations often seem to show more minimal closures or what appears to be none down the front of the shirt?
i would really appreciate any insights or advice that anyone can give, and any links to patterns would also be extremely helpful.
