So this is truly bizarre. Just got this text from a friend of mine this morning out of the blue. Obviously, I'm not gonna use the cabinet for the other one, but now I will have my own and that is pretty sweet!
As you may recall, I destroyed a customer's 1973 twin reverb cabinet by dropping it 4 feet onto a concrete floor. That sucked. Anyway I'm building him a new one and it's starting to come together a little bit. At this point I've done pretty much all I can do and I'm just waiting for the tolex and faceplate to arrive. The cabinet is solid and looks sharp.
I built an amplifier in an old Narragansett Brewery crate a few months ago and a friend of mine saw it and loved it so much that he wanted one for his own. So I built another. Simple tone control, reverb and 15w cathode biased paraphrase inverter power section. It's a fantastic sounding amp and I threw in some extra touches to personalize it for him.
I've been building modified Princeton Reverbs and other circuits for years. I'd never heard of Owsley Stanley's Super Bear modified PR he built for Jerry (I think he built three) but a guy who bought one of mine last year asked about my circuit changes and he said 'oh man it's a Super Bear!' When I told him. Mine has a choke, midrange, bright switch, larger transformers and some phase inverter changes which is apparently what Owsley did on Jerry's amps. Cool! Only thing mine dont get is a JBL😂I decided to build one with a super Bear logo. .
Does anyone have any thoughts on this coin? Don't know weight or diameter, though I just asked and expect to hear back. It's being sold online for $650 and returns are accepted. I see so, so many going for so much more, is this a decent deal?
These went out the door over the past week. Chassis cut, board and cabinet all built by me. I really like the blondface aesthetic.
