I'm a level 7 Celestial Warlock (tabaxi) considering multiclassing to improve my combat performance. I'm thinking of Oath of Vengeance Paladin (it fits my character’s journey, even though Oath of the Ancients might seem more obvious because of the Celestial theme), but I'm unsure because one side is ranged and the other is melee. The extra spell slots, higher AC, and getting Divine Smite from level 2 all seem pretty strong, though.

Could this combo work? How? Or would the build simply be stronger if I stayed pure Warlock?

I've never multiclassed before, so any experiences or advice would be super appreciated.:)
