If I see holes like this on an apple can I assume an insect has gotten in?

Based in the UK

I assume these holes mean some sort of insect has entered but not entirely sure. If so, I am safe to just cut it off so the tree doesn't waste resources on it?

Do these peppers have any chance of fruiting this season?

Just for context I transplanted them outside 2 weeks ago. They are growing in around 5 gallon/18L of tomorite grow bag substrate each and the reason they're half full is because I bought the wrong size fabric pots by accident. I sowed the seeds indoors at the start of April. I'm in greater Manchester.

A lot of them lost leaves when I transplanted them and only one of them has flowers. I'm not really sure what to do to help them grow. I water them every 2-3 days or when the substrate feels dry. I have a mix of baccatums, chinense and annum peppers. The tallest are like 25cm tall.

Anything I can buy or do to help them out? I'm not sure they need fertiliser because the leaves are kinda curled but maybe that's due to how sunny it's been recently. Id appreciate any advice these peppers are so finicky 🫩.
