I Feel Like I Got Scammed by StubHub. Anyone Considering Legal Action?
I originally purchased multiple tickets for my family through StubHub. About 10 days later, our plans changed, so I decided to resell those same tickets through StubHub.
This is where everything started falling apart.
StubHub kept asking me to provide the ticket barcodes for my resale orders. The problem was that the tickets I purchased from StubHub didn't even include the barcodes, so I literally couldn't provide something I never received. I contacted customer support multiple times, and every time I was told to just wait until closer to the event.
Their system is honestly one of the most frustrating I've ever dealt with. As a buyer, I had to constantly monitor my account because I had no idea when the seller would finally transfer the tickets. It felt like I had to stay online 24/7 just to make sure I received them in time and that they were actually the correct tickets.
Then, even though I bought and resold everything on StubHub's own platform, they still expected me to manually handle the barcode process. Why isn't this automated? Why am I responsible for moving information between two StubHub orders? It felt like I was doing StubHub's job for them instead of them providing the service they charge fees for.
After numerous chats and escalations, the original seller finally transferred the tickets to me only about 3 hours before the event. Unfortunately, they were the wrong tickets and didn't match what I had originally purchased. At that point, there was no way I could fulfill my resale orders with the incorrect tickets.
I contacted StubHub immediately. Support told me I qualified for either a full refund or replacement tickets for my sales. I initially chose the replacement option, but with the resale deadline approaching, there wasn't enough time. Support then instructed me to transfer the incorrect tickets back to shmobilereturns@gmail.com so they could process a refund. I followed their instructions exactly and transferred the tickets back immediately. I have proof of the transfer and all of my chat history.
Support also told me that any sales related to those tickets would either be covered with replacement tickets or that I could dispute any resulting charges.
Instead, this is what happened:
- I never received the promised refund for my original purchase.
- StubHub charged me for every related sale.
- I no longer have the tickets because I transferred them back exactly as instructed.
- I'm out the money I paid for the original tickets and I'm being charged for the resale orders.
The financial impact is enormous. Because the chargebacks were applied to all of my resale orders while I never received the promised refund, I'm out thousands of dollars due to a problem that started with StubHub delivering the wrong tickets and then failing to honor what their own support told me.
I've submitted disputes and provided all of my evidence, including the transfer confirmation and my chat history, but I still haven't received a resolution.
I'm also trying to determine whether this is an isolated incident or part of a broader pattern. If others have experienced similar issues and are exploring legal options, including speaking with an attorney or pursuing a potential class action, I'd be interested in connecting.
