Considering a move to Bayside and have questions

My spouse and I are seriously considering a move from Brooklyn to Bayside. We have some family in Port Washington we are trying to live closer to, but hope to stay in NYC city limits while our child is young to take advantage of free 3K/Pre-K. We also love the parks and proximity to water. And it’s more affordable than our current neighborhood, housing and daycare costs are bonkers.

As I try to get a feel for the area, some questions are coming up:

- We need a dog friendly (we have 2!) rental within walking distance of the LIRR station. Everything I’m seeing on Zillow appears to have strict no pets policies. How likely is it that we can find this?

- We are a multicultural family, in our early 40s with progressive values, and neither of us are from NY originally but we’ve been here 7 years. Would this profile make it hard to fit in or find a community in Bayside?

- Does zoning affect 3K or PreK placement? Trying to figure out if we need to narrow down based on program quality, although my instinct is this likely is a bigger consideration closer to Kindergarten age.

Thanks for your perspective!
