MRI appt, no MRI

I've been dreading this MRI for the last 3 months, but I need it.
I took a Xanax and the technicians were super nice. The MRI machine is newer and bigger than older ones, but it's not an open machine. The plan was to watch a movie while I was in there, but once they put the cage over my head it was game over.
I am so embarrassed and upset. :( The fear was so primal and deep and it felt like the Xanax didn't help at all. I really needed the information from this MRI.
I've seen a lot of folks saying to cover their eyes or make sure they don't see the cage going over you. I don't even know if that would help, I'm so so sensitive I feel like I would be able to feel it.
Has anyone successfully gotten anesthesia/full sedation to get an MRI? I'm worried my insurance won't cover it, but the level of distress I just experienced was so awful, I don't want to go through that again.
