Anyone using a good 3rd party expression editor?

Anyone using a good 3rd party expression editor?

I saw that Expressionist became free today (had never heard of it but it looks like it goes back years) and it made me realize I may have been sleeping on this category.

Quick search also surfaces ExpressCode but that's very recent and might be ai slop so I am suspicious of it.

ALSO I'm aware a lot of people are selling good stuff NOT on AEScripts since it became enshittified.

So what y'all using?

is it insane to categorize by type of task instead of project?

Sorry for the ramble. Just curious, high level, philosophy-wise, if anyone else has encountered this kind of thinking.

I've found myself the past year or so starting to use labels to categorize into a few broad buckets: quick, comms, admin hour, deep work

...and rarely using projects. I used to use projects religiously. My Todoist is a mix of personal and business, and my business work often has 5-10 active projects for different clients at a time, so it made a ton of sense.

But my realization was that I like to do the same kind of work in the same time span, and that way of bucketing actually feels more streamlined to work through.

My problem is that it's much harder to move items from one label to another (you can't drag and drop for example, and label selection picker is not as easy to get to as project picker).

So I am considering switching to a system where I just have a few "projects" for each of these work type buckets. But that feels dumb to throw away the ability to apply granular projects when it would help me.

Looking for creature animator who can make a big cat stare into my soul [PAID]

Hello, freelance indie VFX supervisor here.

I have a shot right now that needs a big cat (panther, cougar, sort of vibe) to stare into our soul. There's a wide that we'll likely accomplish with stock footage comped into the hillside, and then there's a CU that has to have a lot of emotional depth and weight. It's a pivotal moment in the film where a character locks eyes and sees their own inner nature mirrored in the panther.

Current idea is to handle the shot with a decent 3d asset (something like this), and a great animator. We're trying to prioritize emotional depth and we don't think we can get the moment we need with a stock plate, so we're accepting a slight decrease in model/render realism to get the emotion we need.

Ideally looking for someone comfortable in Blender, who can do rig cleanup on the 3d stock asset, great animation, and maybe fur/groom cleanup too if the model needs it to fit with the animation.

I would take that animated scene from there and handle lighting, render, comp.

It's a tight budget, but the movie has real funds, and has paid every artist who worked on it real proper industry rates, so please name your reasonable freelance rate for "scrappy indie film that wants to do things right" and let's talk!

Best setup for FIOS 2 gig from scratch

I'm coming out of the darkness and getting 2 gig FIOS after years stuck on horrible 300/50 sort of plans. (And before anyone asks, yes I actually DO have a reason to want the 2gig, I work in film and routinely need to move 100s of GB around).

I'm wholly unfamiliar with setting up a network at this end of the speed scale, and would love advice on best combination of gear.

Network will include:

- primary work station, ethernet, this is the one that needs the 2gigs

- secondary work station, occasionally also wanting 2gig ethernet

- work stations (both Macs) will need to talk to each other over local network, as much speed as is reasonably easy

- several laptops on wifi at "normal people" speeds

- the usual medley of smart phones, tablets, Apple TV, Hue Bridge, random other bridges, etc.

Apartment is about 800sqft, dense urban area. Not sure if I need extenders, etc, but probably keep it simple and skip unless it becomes a problem.

Should I just get the FIOS included router, and design my own network to start after that?

Or decline their router, and totally DIY?

Are labels somehow second class citizens or am I being dumb?

I keep finding labels are less easily accessible than all other task details, and it's confusing me.

Desktop, right-clicking a task, I can instantly access priority, date, but not labels... in fact, I think there's NO way to get straight to labels from a right click which feels crazy cause there's so much in that context menu.

iOS, holding down on a task: same issue!

The one place labels are granted equal billing is during multi-select, where labels are shown as one of the quick edit options.
