I used a ouiji board to tell my friend i knew she slept with my boyfriend?
I (16F), my boyfriend Alex (17M), and my friend Kacy (17F) were all close friends with no prior issues. Alex and I met at summer camp and have been dating for 6 months. Early on, I introduced him to Kacy when we all got froyo together. She acted a little weird afterward but only said he was “okay,” so I ignored it.
Kacy and I are huge horror fans. Recently she got obsessed with spiritual stuff and convinced me to buy a Ouiji board with her off Ebay. While waiting for it to arrive, I hung out with another friend from school. Out of nowhere she said, “ican’t believe you and Alex are still together after what happened with Kacy.” I was confused, so she explained that Alex and Kacy had apparently hooked up in her car after a basketball game. She immediately realized I didn’t know and felt horrible, but the damage was done.
I was furious and planned to confront Kacy the next day, but before I could, she texted me saying the Ouiji board had arrived. That night I went over to her house and acted completely normal. Once it got dark, we lit candles and started using the board. After a few basic questions, I decided to mess with her.
I started moving the planchette myself. First I answered “yes” to “Are you angry?” Then when Kacy asked why, I spelled out “I know what you’ve done.” She looked nervous but still confused. Finally I spelled out “car” and “basketball.” At that point she looked like she was about to throw up. I acted clueless and asked if she knew what it meant. She quickly ended the session.
Over the next week she became super anxious around me. I kept pretending everything was normal and even made a point to say hi to her whenever I was with my boyfriend and saw her at school. Eventually she pulled me aside after school and confessed everything! sleeping with Alex, feeling guilty, and genuinely believing the Ouiji board was haunted and punishing her. She admitted she hadn’t slept in days because she thought the “ghost” was after her for her sins.
I finally broke and started laughing. I told her I had moved the planchette myself because I already knew what happened. I also told her never to contact me again. Alex and I broke up shortly after.
Since then, a lot of friends have blown up my phone saying I took things too far and caused her serious emotional distress. Some agree she deserved it, but others think I should’ve just confronted her immediately instead of letting her panic for weeks.
So am i messed up for using a Ouiji board to mess with my friend after finding out she slept with my boyfriend? Should i apologize to her even after what happened?
