quick tip for medical receipts on your taxes

you don't actually have to claim medical expenses on a strict jan 1-dec 31 calendar year. cra lets you pick any 12-month period ending in the tax year as long as you haven't claimed those receipts before.

if you got expensive dental work or glasses in late 2025, you can bundle them with early 2026 receipts to clear the 3% net income threshold instead of losing out.

made like $800 doing occasional yard work for neighbors over the summer. do i actually need to report this on my return or is there a minimum threshold before cra cares about it?

can i use crypto losses to offset regular income?

took a pretty bad loss selling some crypto earlier this year. can i use that capital loss to lower my employment tax or does it only work against capital gains?

filed my taxes late last year, will i get penalized?

forgot to file on time last year by like two months cuz of personal stuff. didn't owe anything and actually had a refund coming, do they still charge a penalty for late filing if they owe you money?

moving between provinces mid-year, how does tax filing actually work?

i moved from ontario to alberta in the middle of the year for a new job. my employer kept deducting ontario provincial tax for the first couple of months before my payroll address updated in their system. when tax season rolls around, do i file as an alberta resident for the whole year based on where i lived on december 31st, or do i have to split the income between both provinces on my return?
