With all these panelists talking about the leafs trading Matthews etc I wanted to join in with some hot takes.
The leafs will run it back this year and lose in the 1st round. Matthews will score 50+ goals again. The greatest uncertainly will be next summer with the narrative being 'new core, same result'.
The team chalks it up too inexperience in the core players like Cowan, McKenna. The leafs trade a major core player for the defencemen they have needed. It's now Matthews contract year, he scores 60+ goals. The Leafs lose in 7 in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The narrative this summer will be that Matthews wants the bank, but the leafs need to pay McKenna the following year.
