Has there been any other gym that dominated an entire era of MMA like AKA in the 2010s?

I know places like American Top Team are currently doing quite well, but I don't think a gym has ever really dominated an era quite like American Kickboxing Academy in the 2010s.

Khabib, DC, Cain & Luke held undisputed gold at one point or another in the period - Cain & Luke held them within months of each other, and Khabib & DC held them simultaneously - and they had future champs and top contenders flying in to train with them regularly like Islam, Leon and Pavlovich.

Chute Boxe had Wanderlei & Shogun when they were PRIDE champs, they even had Anderson Silva for a while, but I can't think of any others.

Interested to hear your thoughts.

31M - Born to roam the land with a merry band of oddballs, forced to find friends on Reddit

Black Brit with an odd American accent. I'm currently packing up my apartment and moving to a new city.

I enjoy film, books (mostly nonfiction these days), the odd bit of chaotic solo travel, trying new recipes without aggravating the smoke alarm (currently at a 70% success rate), managing my executive dysfunction, and trying to learn more about the world.

I try to be kind and lend a helping hand (or an understanding, non-judgemental ear) whenever I can. While I'm fairly introverted, I'm very loyal to and protective of the people in my inner circle.

In summation, I'm a pretty ordinary fella that's forging their own little path in the world, and traversing the road can be a lonely experience, so I'm hoping to make a few new friends.

If any of this piques your interest, and you aren't keen on harvesting my kidneys, I'd love to hear from you.

33 [M4F] #UK - I've achieved most of my personal goals - except one

Brief bio:

  • Black (originally of Jamaican descent), 6'2", 86kgs, short hair, lean and gym-fit - careful with my diet
  • Born and raised in Britain - spent four years living in the Netherlands, and I speak fluent Dutch. Currently based in Gloucestershire
  • Software engineer with a side-job developing properties with a business partner
  • Don't want to get into specifics re: finances, but I've done well for myself, and currently own two residential properties and one commercial property
  • Vibrant social life - close connections with friends from school, university and work
  • Keen rower and sailor - planning to buy a sailboat in the next year
  • Christian (Anglican)
  • Firm, assertive, and dominant. I know what I want, and will do whatever is required to get it
  • Gentle, nurturing and supportive to those around me - I'm the person people usually approach for help when they're struggling, and I'll do whatever I can to get them out of a tight spot

I'm looking for a single, monogamous, intelligent and traditionally feminine woman who sees marriage, children, and homemaking in her future. If you have an interest in property/real estate, that would also be brilliant, as I'd love to teach you how to handle some aspects of our property business from home while I'm working in the day job.

I'm not expecting perfection. We're all human, have flaws, and are deserving of empathy and understanding.

I don't want to go into great detail here, but if any of this appeals, please reach out with the following:

  • Location
  • Age
  • Relationship status
  • What you're looking for, and you feel we might be compatible

If your workplace pension has a protected retirement age, make sure this is reflected in your SIPP if you choose to consolidate

I'm sharing a frustrating recent experience in the hopes that you can avoid this potential pitfall.

After leaving my former employer, I contacted the employer's pension provider to inquire as to whether I had a protected retirement age. They advised that I didn't, so I began the process of transferring the funds to a SIPP with another provider.

I then received another email from the employer's provider with a correction: I did indeed have a protected retirement age of 55, meaning I could still withdraw from it at age 55 even when the minimum age increases to 57 after 6 April 2028. This was later confirmed again during a phone call.

As part of the transfer to my SIPP, they made sure to include my protected retirement age in the Origo documents to my SIPP provider. I thought that was the end of that, as my SIPP provider already advised that they would honour any existing protected retirement age for pension transfers (up to the amount transferred).

Despite this, in a later communication, my SIPP provider advised that this protected retirement age was not reflected in my SIPP. I spent months sending them evidence and chasing them to get this rectified. I even got former employer's pension provider to send them a separate email confirming the protected retirement age, but I got nowhere.

I eventually had no choice but to submit a formal complaint with my SIPP provider, which has now been upheld. They've confirmed that the transferred portion of my SIPP, and any associated growth, is accessible without penalty at 55, and they have made an offer of compensation.

I'm sharing this in case any of you find yourselves in a similar position. If your workplace pension has a protected retirement age, and you choose to consolidate it into another pension, don't rely on the providers. Keep your own records, and make sure your protection is reflected in your consolidated pension.

I received a provisional job offer from a large organisation in March. I've undergone a lengthy background check via a third party, and upon completion, my offer became unconditional, I was given a contract (which I duly signed), and I was given a start date of 14/05. I had spoken with my future manager while the background checks were taking place, and everything seemed fine. My ID and login credentials had been created, and my laptop was on its way according to the onboarding app.

Upon accepting this offer, I handed in my notice, I declined another great job offer I received, and was looking forward to proceeding with my career at my new employer.

Today, I was advised that this new role was no longer required, and that I would no longer be joining next week. This has completely floored me.

My signed contract states that my employment may be terminated by giving 4 weeks' written notice, so I'm assuming I'll be entitled to a month's pay. However, given I'm less than a week away from my start date, I've left my former role, and I've turned down another job opportunity as I already had an unconditional offer of employment that I accepted, do I have any other recourse with this organisation?

It's been a mess of a day, and I'm trying to make sense of my next steps.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
