Fellow Aiden output is 15% off.
Got the Aiden last week. I'm sort of happy with it, but with several annoyances, the chief one being the big gap between the water output I select and what actually ends up in the pot.
I know that some water loss is normal from absorption, but I'm getting 14-16% less than what I select. For example, I tried to brew a 500ml pot so that I could have 3 small 150ml cups. Instead, I ended up with 420ml in the pot. I open the top after brewing to see where the water went, and I'm greeted with a cloud of steam and a gush of unused water pouring out of the showerhead.
Is this the normal, expected experience? For a "precision" brewer, I was not expecting to have to set my output 40-80ml higher than what I actually want, especially since Hoffmann praised it for being very precise in how much water it outputs. It's clearly not just absorption, but also a bunch of water being left in the showerhead somehow.
Is this normal?
Edit: seems to be a combination of absorption and about 12-16ml of water getting stuck in the showerhead. Guess I just need to up the output by 20ml to account for this.
Edit 2: Lance Hedrick's review explicitly shows the issue, with trapped water spilling out of the showerhead upon opening. I still love the Aiden, it is absolutely the best drip machine ever made, but it's sad to see the same reddit hivemind problem that convinced me to buy the far more disappointing Baratza ESP, where every complaint is simply downvoted to oblivion so that nobody ever hears of even the most minor of issues with a product. Overall though, very happy with the Aiden. Just wish people wouldn't take personal offense at bringing up documented issues that even experts have complained about.
