How bad would things have actually gotten if Stringer had found someone to hit Clay Davis.

I was thinking of how far the fallout would have reached, all because Stringer got his ego hurt. Levy laughing at him likely sent him over the edge.
One of the first to suffer would have been Levy. His known associations with Stringer and Avon would have been on front street. Mcnulty with federal backing would have come after him viciously if for no other reason that his personal vendettas.
His finances would have been investigated, his legal career might have been in jeopardy.
As an officer of the court he would be legally compelled to help the investigation.
Levy is as slick as they come and probably could have found a way to survive but not without suffering severe damage.
Clay Davis's likely had numerous enemies and a serious murder investigation would have uncovered many stones.
Who else could suffer if he got murdered?
