PAX Aus Boardgame Meet up, find a group, social matching thread

Hey folks, hoping to get this pinned forma week and keep it open for anyone attending PAX Aus this weekend to meet some new people and play some new and old boardgames.

I recommend if you're keen to mix, post what days you're attending, games you're keen on playing, if you know the rules or want to learn and how much time you have free/panel attendance deadlines and best form of contact.

Have fun everyone.

San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams @ The MCG - Gameday thread

Any and all discussion welcome. Who will stand out? Who will fall flat (and blame jetlag)? Will this game land well in Melbourne and make history or just be a one off oddity? Anyone else bummed we don't get to see Aaron Donald's return from retirement? At least we get Kittle and Bosa. Who will play the better game, Stafford or Purdy (go Matt!)?

What team jersey are you repping? Have fun folks and be LOUD!

Smart quote on BYD Sealion 7 AWD, a few queries, general thoughts?

Hey folks, assisting my partner with a Novated Lease, I know even less than they do, BUT I do know this sub exists. So thanks in advance for any brains trust provided. Quote and further info attached, please advise if any info I missed de-identifying. Partner works in health industry in Victoria, they go through Smart Leasing.

- Is the 5% a good motivation to get signed? Bonuses likely to get any better?

- 9.3% interest rate, that okay?

- Does it matter they quote annual kms as 20k in one place but calculation appears to be on ~22k?

- Should we query our own insurance provider?

Also, what is generally the smartest decision at the end of the lease? Rolling onto a new vehicle is what I assume my partner will want to do.

Any advise on the positives, negatives or things to dig deeper into? Partner just wants to pull the trigger, im a tightarse who doesnt trust much on face value but isn't informed enough to really advise.

Looking to play The Thing: The Boardgame

I've played Who Goes There which has been a mixed experience, and Outpost 31 looks okay but perhaps The Thing: The Boardgame might be the best of the lot (speculative), but Board Game Geek lists it as needing at least 6 players. I'm wondering if any Melbourne folk out there would be interested in playing it? It's a long shot, but worth a try. Willing to travel, can teach but I'd imagine it would be best if people have at least read the rules and or watched a 'let's play'.

To be honest I'd enjoy any of the 'The Thing' games and also want to replay Battlestar Galactica and learn Nemesis (which looks great). So if there are any interested folks and existing groups looking for a +1, please message me or post in here.

How do people share music meaningfully in the modern age?

I get that streaming services are easy to access, make lists* and share, but I feel it's taken away something from the special act that used to be sharing a cassette tape or a CD that was hand crafted.

I'm hoping to make something for each of my loved ones on their birthdays this year.

Are there any ways to capture that feel outside of literally recording the tracks to tape (it's what I'm considering but I worry about the fidelity for modern ears and accessibility 😅)

*(Edited and reposted to remove the forbidden 'p' word that makes this sub auto remove any post)

**(Re-edited still trying to get this discussion last moderation, is this really not a discussion of value? Apologies if this reads funny, there are a lot of useful words banned in this sub 🤔)

I see there was a spring sale in April, having just played a game with Asia (hosted by someone else) I now want it so I can get used to the birds, any idea how often they go on sale? I'm on android if that matters.

I like to cook which is fortunate given I've identified garlic and onion are nasty for my gut and it gets out in a lot of processed foods. Unfortunate for me I loved those flavours.

I started collating ingredients I had been experimenting with for flavour to post in this subreddit to see what other would suggest, the list got bigger the more I thought about it and then I ran it through an LLM to see what I'd missed and it had some more good suggestions, the list grew. Anyway, I figured I'd still post it in case it is useful for others and to see if you have any additions or comments on what does/doesn't work for you? A few things on this list I would need to use vary sparingly, but my experimentation continues...

Thanks in advance.
